Title: Soccer fields are better!!
Post by: Paul Taylor on May 13, 2011, 06:52:24 PM
Well we had a little T-Storm blow threw then it was cool temps, light wind and I have the house to myself. So I gave myself and kitchen pass and loaded my plane.
I sent a text message to my flying buddy to see if the thought our normal field would be too muddy to fly. He texted me back and said the Soccer fields would not be too muddy. He was right, fields were OK to fly off of. I did have to kick a ball off the field that was left behind. But not a soul in sight. I put up two flights.

I got done with my first flight I heard clapping. I looked around and two people had pulled off the side of the road and was watching my flight. I gave them the golfers wave as I walked to my plane.  H^^
Sure was nice, and no one gave me grief for flying like the baseball dads did a few days ago at our other park.

Yea, the soccer field will be good until about mid-July when the soccer teams show up.

Roy Trantham and the bunch from the Stuart Fl are use a length of plywood to put under the model while you start the engine.  This prevents muffler/pipe burns from the running engine that close to the grass.  The ply is also a larger stooge.  Grounds keepers might want to throw you off from the burned spots in the grass.  The ply is good PR for the flyers with the owners.

Good advise Allen. I was setup next to one of the goals. It was almost a dirt spot any way.  No harm no foul. :-)

I learned to fly and learned the pattern, flying on soccer fields. (1968-1970)
Base ball fields are a rare phenomenon over here....

Hockey fields (we distinguish hockey and ice hockey) are even better (flatter, shorter grass)

Nowadays one can only fly at a model flying field. Aero modelling has been banned from the public space....
