The Trivial Pursuit is now in one piece, and is just about ready for it's first coat of primer!! All that's needed is the fillets and we can start painting it.

The way I've figured it right now is I have a finishing budget around 9-12 ounces from this point, so it's coming in fairly light right now!!!

Here is how I'm gonna be painting the TP. PJ Rowland helped me out with it a little bit, just some subtle changes to my original etching.

It's a combination of these 2, if you look close, you can pick out some of the discrepencies, and it'll be a combination of both.

It should be flying in about a month, which I think is plenty of time, especially since it looks like I made the varsity team for baseball at school!!

Very nice work there. I have a question for you. I'm asking you this because your young and talented and pick
up on alot of details an older flyer might just skip over or not even remember.

When transitioning from a medium size stunter (like a Nobler) to a full size 60" stunter like your Trivial Persuit.
Is there a big deference in control ? Is the bigger plane smoother and happyer on the lines ? Or is this another
learning curve thats takes time. ? Just wanted to get your opinion if you please because i have not yet experienced
a full size stunt ship yet myself. Thank You Bryan

Hi Bryan,

So far, all I can base my facts off of is a couple flights off of other people's airplanes. In the past couple years, I've gone from an Ares, with something like 550 sq inches of wing area, to an Oriental Plus with 600 sq inches. The only thing I noticed when going slightly bigger, was it was easier to see, and it was somewhat easier to fly (probably had something to do with the fact I went from 4.7-4.8 lap times to 5.1-5.3). From what I've felt, it's all a matter of how you trim the plane. I flew Steve Yampolsky's Stoli Special on about 6 back to back flights, and it had a very gentle pull, and only was much easier to fly than my Ares. Also it had a corner that seemed instantaneous compared to an Ares. Then I flew my grandfather's P-40 (roughly the same size as the Stoli) to help him trim it a little better, and it pulled like a freight train and had a good corner when I switched to a different handle for my liking.

That's how I feel about it, and I'll see what happens when I start flying this plane.

Looks very good, Matt. Take your time with the finish and it will be a fine plane. The TP is a great flying plane.

I like the paint scheme- fuselage striping / banding looks great. On the wing I like the one with TP on the inboard wing and AMA ( ok "N" ) # on the outboard.

The only change I might suggest is to use AMA xxxxxx and have it moved outboard so the last digit in your numbr ends up in the same relative position as the T in Trivial pursuit on the inboard. I think it helps visually balance the wing.

Great craftsmanship on the plane- it makes me want to hide / burn a bunch of mine.

See - I disagree - I prefer have text symetrical and having your AMA number smaller and less obtrusive - however I have seen a bunch of models that differ to this line of thinking. - There is no right and wrong.

I think the biggest difference between flying Nobler sized vs TP Size is pull on the lines and stability in control. Ease of point and shoot flying. We only made a few minor changes to the paint - One thing I changed which I hope goes onto the finished model is in the 1st photo the white stripe running down the side of the fuse - Matt had it broken toward the elevator and I suggested it be continued straight - this will present a really nice profile and give the judges something to look at - Similar to what Bob G Does on the BEAR.

IT LOOKS AMAZING MATT.

Hi Allen, contact Sina Gourdazi. My original sketch was hand drawn by me, and I sent it to him just to see what he thought of it, and he sent me a PDF of my drawing on the actual side view of the plane. I just saved them as .jpg's.

It looks awesome!
your time dilema is pretty common, I dont play ball ( coaches would be required to be current in CPR if I played lol) but I have a daughter playing college softball and another who plays high school ball, talk about time? typically about 4 days a week going to games, which is fun, but man it sure eats up the time. I commend you for persevering through the time crunch and producing a fine model, and improving your flying.

Sadly we won't be at Brodak's this year because we're planning on going to the NATS. I get my license in 9 days so I'll be able to pitch in on some of the driving now when we go to contests, and I'll be pitching in on the 15-16 hour drive to get to Muncie this year!!!

Hi DOC,

I've already been doing some math on how many stops it will take to get us to Muncie to refuel. By my calculations, it'll take us about 2 1/2 tanks of gas to get there, and it's 838 miles to get to the hotel according to mapquest. This math only shows I'm getting very excited to get to Muncie!!

Aaaannnnddddd, it's looking like Wednesday, if the weather holds up, could be the first flying day of the year!!!!!!

Edit: I guess I should mention what I did today. I got the fillets on, and they are looking pretty good as of now, and got the rudder permanently glued onto the plane (it was only pinned on for the pictures).

Regarding the paint schemes (it would be wonderful to be able to expand both versions and look at them both side-by-side...but I can't find a way). I definitely like #1 better. I don't like the white bar at the bottom of the fuselage near the pipe outlet. It doesn't seem to be integrated into the rest, just kinda loosely tacked on.

I would also suggest revising the trim on the horizontal tailplane. Move the white back to the hingeline, and sweep back the front edge of the white to more match the wing, instead of straight. Changing the red bars on the fuselage to "USA" would be a huge improvement! And I think I would look at reworking the fin/rudder trim by putting the white at the LE and not at the TE.

That's a pretty good long day driving at tortoise-speed back in the East. We do that regularly but that's out here where the speed limit is 75 and no one blinks an eye when you cruise all day long at 83-84.
