I'm waiting for some bullet connectors so it's isn't all assembled yet, but this is it. Heavier than I wanted, but still in the "it should fly OK" range.
-
Looks bloody excellent, congratulations.
Love to know more about plane, not one I've seen before.
Dan.
-
Very nice....
Are "bullet connectors" some magic pills that electrics use?
-
Daniel,
It's a combination of Ted Fancher planes. Part Trivial Pursuit, Part Excitation, Part Intimidation with a Star Gazer airfoil (well, sorta).
Rich,
The motor has 3mm connectors, the ESC has 4mm connectors. So, I'm waiting for 4mm bullet connectors to retrofit to the motor.
-
I once had an experience with a bullet connecter, and I still have the scar in my right thigh to prove it. With that, once again I have to say that your building leaves me with an open mouth hanging in envy.

Cool lookin' bird Randy, definitely a cross between a Fancher/Powell look overall. y1
-
Looks good Randy.
-
Very nice Randy. OK, I'll ask, what does it weigh?
-
Hey Randy it looks great. If it don't fly to your expectations send it on down to the old DOC. But then again it's electric so you better keep it.. But I know it will probably fly better than the pilot. LL~ LL~ S?P

Very beautiful Randy, but then we've come to expect no less from you! Tough to constantly live up to your own Reputation. Isn't it?
I never have that problem! LL~ LL~

Randy,
The wood on the original (built in 1991) is now well cured and the ship may be as much as a half oz lighter. Practically takes off just by flipping the prop!
Look'n gooood, my friend. Not so sure about that T'gazer airfoil though. I understand it originated in a warbird birthed in Berea, Ohio and thus subscribes to the zero oz stunt formula. Helium is available at the local party store.

p.s. Dave may have proven the value of Downunder vortex generators by employing them on his WC winning Thundergazer, however. ;D ;D ;D ::)

Yeah, prove to me that they actually work!

As usual, excellent!!!!!

Ted,
It's more a tribute than a copy. I looked at several of your designs and sort of combined them. It started life as an RSM Trivial Pursuit kit but sort of deviated from that (thus the name). I always like the looks of the Excitation, so I sort of copied that for the fuse and used the planform for the stab and elevator (though it doesn't have the thickness). The airfoil is a TP airfoil slimmed down a bit. Pat Johnston cut some ribs for me using the TP numbers but a somewhat thinner section and greater vertical taper.
I sort of pirated a combination of several of your paint schemes. Mostly the Excitation with a bit of Intimidation added in.
We'll see how it flies, hopefully this weekend.

Good job, my friend, good job.

Hi Ted
It actually originated in Atlanta Ga as an SV DN airfoil.
So it will carry weight well...within reason! :-)

Nice job Randy. I look forward to seeing it fly. It looks more "mainstream" than many if your others. Hope it flies well for you!

OMG! Is there no end to the balsa and tissue aerodynamics plagiarsation scandal? I just unearthed a long lost message from Orville and Wilbur contemplating a suit against George Aldrich for having stolen their shortly post "flyer" airfoil for the green box Nobler. Is their no honor amongst us. LL~ LL~ H^^

The whole plane is just a modified Nobler after all.

closely derived from a ringmaster no doubt

Randy, if you want to fly your new plane this weekend, give a shout. The weather is pretty well back to normal...and I have a gate keycard. I'd like to work on the Eagle's trim some, now that the prop seems to work better. ;D Steve
-
Ted,
I`m in big trouble then. My Heinz 57 used the Nobler wing. Oh no. y1

Randy, The plane look great.

Steve,
Sunday, probably. The parts I need are supposed to get there Saturday. I'll give you a call.
Thanks for all the nice comments. Hope it flies well. Guess we'll find out.

Should be no problem, the Nobler is a solid platform. :##

Actually Gordy...You should do like I do. Steal the entire design and just change the name. In reality the only thing that can be copyrighted is the name...change it... LL~ LL~ <= <=

Has anybody ever took a count of how many designs use the Nobler wing or a slight variation of it.

Nice looking plane Randy!!

Nicccccee... Kind of a Jim Casale WC paint job from the eighties too!!!

Brad, More a combination of Ted Fancher 1980s paint jobs. :D
-
So, it flew today. Not bad. Need to seal the hinge line (I knew I would but wanted to fly it clear first) and I need a could of trim changes that were really shop work, but overall, not at all bad. Seems it will be a decent plane. So, there you go. Steve Helmick took a picture so he will probably post it.
Steve sent a pic and so I'll beat him to the punch.
-
Glad to hear the good news. Very nice airplane Randy. Do well with it my friend.
-
Hey Randy, get a new hat man!
That hat is almost an old as it has been since they were "ggood".
-
I've had the hat since the started. Every lousy year.
-
The motor has 3mm connectors, the ESC has 4mm connectors. So, I'm waiting for 4mm bullet connectors to retrofit to the motor.
Use 3.5 mm instead. Lighter, will carry the max. current with ease.
In hindsight, if the motor has 3 mm, that should be adequate, I'm only using 4mm for connections that get a lot of mechanical wear (battery/ESC).

In the first place, I should have complimented you with making a tribute to one of your stunt heros.
I'll be in debt with Ted forever, after him taking me back to the hotel, long time after the bus left the closing ceremony in Muncie 2004.
The hero, whose design features I adopted in my latest build, became World Champion when Paul, Bill and Jimmy were the US team.
