We are under a DDoS attack and I will be rebooting the server at 5PM CST

A DDoS attack floods the server with traffic so it has trouble responding to legitimate requests.  After the server reboots, the outside traffic will most likely still be incoming since said traffic is most likely automated.  So how is rebooting the server supposed to help?
