I ordered 100 ft of SLC from Phil at Core House and I really do like the way it goes on. Is this Mylar film and if so what thickness is it? Phil is going to be gone for a while and I would like to find out if this would be available in colors..
Thanks

Mike, unless I'm mistaken it only comes in the translucent clear (oxymoron). Its very much like the old Oz Cover that was made to be painted. I used it on my Gladiator the first time and SLC the second, in handling and application properties they are identical identical. Would be nice to have some in colors for sure. You might consider spraying with some sort of dye but I really don't know what would work.

I'm pretty sure it is clear only. However it does take paint pretty well (I used Rustoleum primer then Rustoleum paint, both spray).

I think I'm probably using the same stuff (it has an adhesive side that sticks when heated, and has a cloudy sort of appearance until you heat it and it goes clear). AFAIK it's just laminating film, but it's great stuff. Usually I either paint it directly (after rubbing down with acetone), or for added strength, dope light silkspan onto it and then finish as per usual.
One of the guys out here, though, made the interesting discovery that you can actually paint the adhesive side. The film still applies just as if it hadn't been painted, with no adhesion problems at all, and looks great.

Chris,
Did you use Rustoleum over open wing bays? Successfully? If so, which Rustoleum did you use? I have always heard that enamels are too brittle for open bays. Thanks.

Hi Kim,
It is the regular spray recommended "stops rust" I believe. It is over a foam wing but it has not been treated kindly and I don't see any flaking off.
Colors are gloss grey and gloss olive drab. I am not aware of any rustoleum issues on open bays in general.
