Skyray update...(tip photos added)
« on: October 24, 2006, 09:33:20 AM »
Not much new. I redid the nose to fit an O.S..35S instead of the Fox, and added a tripler. We're in fillet mode right now... x:

Nice workmanship!  Is that silk or silkspan?  Also what do you use for filets?

The wing is covered with Polyspan, tips with Silkspan, and the fillets are 30 minute epoxy with micro balloons. ;D

Plane looks great so far, but, I think you should have stayed with Polyspan all the way on the wing.  Was demonstrated to me the value of overlapping Polyspan on the center section.  Makes for a very strong wing.  Let us know how it flies when done.  DOC Holliday

The wing IS all Polyspan Doc, and you're right on the strength. It's just the wingtips that are done with Silkspan because I personally can't do them with Polyspan. These particular tips (not shown here) we're a major b***h even with Silkspan. I've got over 5 hours just in getting the wing tips covered on this one! :P

Larry,

 Tips last, ALWAYS. ;D

This is because it gives a nice flat area (the wing bay) to overlap the tip covering onto, instead of trying to go the other way. I overlap it about a 1/2" and then cover the tip the way you normally would. I'll post a pic or two tomorrow.

Wayne,
Very nice work. Question: It looks like you added to the nose, will this make it fly different? Also can you show us a pic of the trim tab?

Thanks y1
