Title: Skyray my way...
Post by: wwwarbird on October 05, 2006, 07:12:10 PM
Well folks, here is one of my current projects. It is/was a Skyray with all new, respaced, balsa ribs and built-up wingtips, fixed, tapered flaps yielding a 47" overall span and 500 sq. in area (stock is 396 sq. in.). Adjustable leadouts and an outboard trim tab are also added. I also added a balsa 3/8" x 3/8" triangular stiffener along the top and bottom of the fuse, and made a new inboard ply doubler, sans engine cutout. The new 3/16" stab and 1/8" elevator has a 19" span at the hinge line. Stock was much smaller. Sig Fazer aluminum L/G was also added. Power was going to be a Fox .35, but I have since come to my senses and will now be fitting an O.S..35S. Hopefully I can get the pics loaded here, and you can check her out! ;D

Very Nice.

Do you think it would fly better with flaps?

My Ray done my way, and redone, and redone.

Now sporting a new OS .25, and in search of the right prop.

I like my Ray

It'll be an all grey 60's type U.S. Navy scheme with all the markings, maybe even with a white belly.

Flaps might help, but hey, it's a Skyray. ;)

Nice looking Skyray. Hope you'll post more pics when it's finished. About the Fox... nothing wrong with a Stunt 35 that can't be fixed by a going over by Larry Foster:)

cheers,
Ken

Not completely ripping on the Fox, there is surely thousands of great running ones out there, heck, I even have one that falls into that category on another model. However, the other 50th anniversary one I've got isn't even broken in yet, (2 three ounce tanks of fuel so far is all) and may need to get some massaging done, it's REALLY tight. ;D

Can't wait to see it.  Please, post more pics as it progresses.
