skylarks of Sharon Flyin
« on: August 07, 2007, 09:15:02 AM »
I attended the Skylarks of Sharon Flyin a couple of weeks ago and had a great time.  It's about a 2.5 hour drive for me but was well worth it.  The competition was for profile only but another flyin will be held 8/25-26 That will include other events.  (Someone please correct me if I have the dates wrong.)  This is the first competition I have ever attended other than the Brodak Flyin and believe me I plan on attending a lot more.  Our host was Phil Spillman and he did a great job of making us all feel welcome.  Phil had a pizza party at his house on Saturday evening and it was a great opportunity to make some new friends.  Phil had everyone stand up and tell a little about themselves and then he added a little more.  Phil has a beautiful home and yard and a great shop in the basement.  Phil has accumulated a ton of CL stuff over the years.  (And I thought I had a lot of stuff).  Thanks for a fantastic time Phil and I am looking forward to seeing you later this month.  Check out their web site for details.  Here are a few pics of the event.  I'm in the process of putting some videos on YOUTUBE.  Just search on 'skylarks of sharon'.

Sam:
A couple of your great photos - - including one relatively tight shot - - show a red profile with "The Model Air" on the port wing.  Can you tell me anything about that plane, such as, whose plane it was and if and from where plans might be available?
Can anyone else share information about that design?
Thanks in advance for any information you might have.

Looks like a SIG  "Fazer" to me. The Fazer really is a very nice CL conversion as their plans show.

The Model Air is an origanal built design by Jim Harris (Ball Diamond Flyer fame). No plans.

Jim made the plane a gift to Phil Spillman some years ago.

Hey Sam,

Nice photos & video on You Tube. Hint: the video was of one of my flights.

Patrick,
Did I see that right-Yoda by 1?  The master rules.

Hey John,

Yes Yoda rules. Not enough points for master name tag though.

Grasshopper lead Saturday, Yoda came back on Sunday.

Grasshopper needs to burn a few more gallons of fuel.

Patrick,

Yes it was one of your flights.  Check out that orange hat. I thought I had one of Phil also but it didn't come out.

I'm bumping this back to the top to make sure Allen Buck sees it.  He told me he has no one else to fly with and has a hard time improving without some help.  He said he only has internet access on the weekends so Allen, if you see this post, the video I took is on Youtube.  Hope it helps you.  See you in Sharon later this month.

Good job Sam,

Alan Buck took a respectable 2nd place in Intermetiate. Sam took 1st.

The video shows the good & bad I did on this flight. The outside square bottems were about 7'. You can see I pulled them out above my head. The square 8 shows an angled bottem. Good video Sam!
