Title: Skip's Pinto
Post by: Skip Chernoff on March 06, 2017, 05:39:13 AM
I flew my new Pinto yesterday. She flew great. 10.5 ounces,Monokote finish,no landing gear (flying on grass) .008 linesx42' ,G Mark .061 on 25% fuel. 5x4 Cox Grey prop. Needs a bigger tank. Was using a Perfect 3/4oz wedge. I highly recommend this little 1/2A stunter. Wish I knew how to resize my pics so I can post them....PhillySkip

Don't you have a picture program on your computer?   That is how I do mine after down loading from camera.

Skip,
Google Picture resize Genius. It's a free download and a no brainer to use.
Hope this helps.  Bob

Thanks all I'm working on the picture thing. Today, we had a beautiful day here in Philly(very little wind) and I flew the @#$% out of the Pinto. My pal Rich Martinez got some pics and video. I'm sure he'll post it up shortly.  PhillySkip

Attached is a pic of my just finished Pinto .Engine is a GMark .061 on Foremost mount which required a complete redesign of front end. C/L will be 42' .008. The all up weight is 10.75 oz, covering is MonoKote. I didn't use the engine beams and added 1/16 ply doublers running back into the fuse /wing area. Tank is a 3/4 oz perfect wedge on suction. Hope you like it...PhillySkip

Hi Skip, Great picture! Nice to see someone in PA having fun for a change instead of shoveling ....Partly Cloudy! Are you going out to Lebanon's Swap Meet this Saturday? I plan on coming up with an old friend to try to sell some of my stuff! Perhaps I'll see you there!

I see you must have found a way to resize pictures.   Plane looks good, H^^  but look mucho better with a cute lady holding it. LL~ LL~

Doc, my wingman Rich posted them on the PhillyFliers facebook page. I clicked on the pic and moved it to my desktop. This forum accepted it from my desktop. facebook must resize the pics automatically.
Regarding getting a pretty girl to hold the plane for the shot... I contacted Sophia Vergara . She declined saying that should we meet  in person she wouldn't be able to control her passion for me and who knows how that would end???

Send Sophia the picture of the Pinto...maybe she'll reconsider. Clean it well, because apparently, she's fussy about greasy kid's stuff.  H^^ Steve

Hello Skip, I like your 1/2A Pinto; the side mounting is very clever. I'm surprised your model

weighs only 10.75 ozs.  I'm not sure of your final fuel tank capacity, but it will probably only

add an additional .5ozs.  I've got an older RSM Pinto kit, and I intend to power it with a

PAW .5cc diesel engine. My projected ready to fly weight, sans fuel, should be right at 7.0 ozs.

If I'm lucky I might get the weight down to 6.5-6.75 ozs.  Unlike you, I intend to use the 1/32"

sheet for planking. Don't be afraid of 1/32" sheet wood. I have built many Fast Combat ships

with 1/16" planking for wing leading and trailing edges.  I'll use Jap Tissue for covering and use

appropriate grained 3/32" sheet balsa for empennage and flaps.  With diesel power, I can use a

significantly smaller fuel tank than a glow engine requires.  I have considerable experience with

small diesel engines in Pinto sized models. My modified Ringmaster Jr's have stock airfoils, tail

moments, but have shortened nose moments to accommodate smaller tank dimensions  and much

lighter airframes.  The PAW 0.80cc engines get approx. 7 minutes airtime on 2/3 oz capacity tanks.

Their ready to fly weight is 7.2 oz's sans fuel. These Ring Jr's turn very sharp and can stay overhead

on 44'X .008" lines.

I hope to start construction in about a month(construction area is in disarray due to building updates). S?P

Tony, because I used the Foremost motor mount I eliminated the engine beams.I did however install 1/16 doublers to the fuselage sides as per full size stunters and some triangle stock at the firewall. I eliminated the landing gear as we fly off grass. The tank is a 3/4oz Perfect wedge on suction only. I was surprised by the light weight of the finished plane as well.BTW I did use the 1/32 sheeting as per plan, but if I built another I'd probably use 1/16.  The gMark engine was a good choice .It is very steady with good fuel draw.If you go to the Philly Fliers facebook page there is a video of me flying it....PhillySkip
