Silkspan
« on: March 06, 2006, 03:38:45 AM »
Does silkspan have an indefinite shelf life? A small R/C hobby shop I go by and stop at in rural Iowa has some Silkspan (SIG) that he's had for probobly 15-20 yrs. His prices on the boxes were .45 per sheet for med. and .70 per sheet for sgm. He offered to sell me all of it approx. 30 to 40 sheets for 15.00, The box of sgm was unopened we checked it out and there was about 12 sheets in it. At todays prices the sgm would be more than the 15.00. Hope I didn't waist my money but I bought it. Any comments?

i think you'll be fine with the silkspan. once it's doped it should be o.k. plus the box was unopened.

I have used silkspan that is probably older than I am!  As long as it wasn't damaged, it seemed to work fine.
However, I have had models that I didn't use any plasticiser on that the silkspan became brittle and split after 10 or so years.

Bill,

Wish Ihad a model that lasted 10 years. I've been told that I fly too low and considering some of the results, I think they are right.

You are supposed to touch the rudder to the ground on outside squares aren't you?
