Title: Sig Stix-It, Coverite Balsarite and Consolidated Poly-Tak

         Spoke with a Coverite tech rep today and confirmed that the fabric version of Balsarite has been long gone. The film version, a thinned mix of the fabric formula, is currently on the shelves but was told it's days are numbered. The label of the film version states, 'not for Micafilm', which is what I'm using. My anxient can of the fabric version works great but is almost gone so I looked into Sig Stix-It. The label didn't convince me it was what I needed, then discovered Poly-Tak on an RC forum.

        Has anyone used Sig Stix-It? Is it Poly-Tak with a different label? The warnings on both products contain the same solvents.

  I preferred SIG Stix-It to all the other iron on adhesives.  It may be just as you say, the same stuff but repackaged. If you need a smaller quantity, you can probably get SIG stuff easier and less expensive.

 I have Stix it now, and use it for applying Dacron fabric.  I am sure it will do fine with Mica film.  I figure I will end up using Poly tac eventually as all of our hobby products disappear.

Greetings!  I've used them both with good success.  In my experience, I believe Stix-it is a slight bit thicker viscosity but the adhesive properties are great.  Balsarite seems to soak into the wood a bit more but that doesn't inhibit it's adhesive abilities either.  One thing I can say is, from my experience, it's a bit more work to remove covering applied over Stix-it ;D!

      Thanks for the replies. Now that I know stix-it/ploy-tak works, parting with the $30 won't be so bad.

I have been using an iron on adhesive from the fabric store and has been working for me.  Just finished the fourth wing using the stuff.  It is called Mod Podge.  It has to dry over night and have a smooth base for it.  This is poly ester cloth on this wing.  The others are using a silk span type covering.  I still have a half bottle I'm still using.   One coat straight from jar.

Many contact cements will also work. Just dilute them 30..50% and brush to framework. From brands sold in US, at least Velcro cement and UGF (in glass bottle) are used amonf free flight people, for attaching mylar & Icarex. L
