Sig shipping costs
« on: October 23, 2022, 02:41:52 PM »
Went to order 2 glow plugs  and their Minimum shipping cost is now $14.95  :'( mw~ Used to be $9.00 or so. At least Brodak's  has alot of leeway in their shipping cost.

Gary,
Did you order online or call them? Sometimes for small orders that you don't need tomorrow it you call (i know this works with Brodak) and ask for just regular mail they will do it and the cost is much less.

Best,    DennisT

The first rule of ordering from Sig is to just call them up.  They're cheerful and helpful over the phone, and the actual people on their end seem to have a much better grasp of what's in stock or not than their website does.

I web ordered some silkspan and fuel from SIG. Silkspan was sent to me, but no fuel for 3 months now. They just keep saying the fuel is out of stock.

This type of thing makes me really worry about the financial health of SIG.

Give them a chance.  They have changed hands several times now.   Don't you have a hobby shop to get fuel?

Your profile does not show your location? ???

Best,    DennisT   Just called them and they said the computer will not let them change the $14.90 shipping price because they have been losing Money!!!

The hobby shops near me don't carry fuel at all, or if they do, not the fuel I use. Mostly high nitro for model cars. And I live in San Rafael, CA (San Francisco Bay Area)

SIG is also 'out of stock' on lots of items. Not a good sign!!

We had a shop here in the Kansas City area that carried for for cars.  We asked about getting fuel like we use,  You know 10% nitro and 22% oil.   Had to buy a case to get them to order it.  In fact I think we wound up ordering 2 cases as it lowered shipping cost to the Hobby Shop owner. D>K

This is not news any more, and it's well known that SIG had been struggling for a while, even before the new ownership took over. To get anywhere near back to solid ground is gonna take a while, but it's not just SIG. Like the old saying goes, "Things are tough all over!"  Any store in my area is no where near stocked like they used to be. If you need a part for your car I hope the auto parts store has it or can get it in reasonable time.  You are participating in a hobby that is just a tiny particle in the sea of what is the economy. You are gonna have to learn how to deal with certain things just like the rest of us. Balsa is ridiculous in price and in short supply. Fuel is can be the same way. One factor limiting some suppliers is simply getting jugs and containers to put it in!! There are still some glow plugs out there to be had but the major players in the glow plug market are not making any right now. They don't talk about it much on the news but the supply line problems are still very real. The big lots all over town where I live are starting to fill up with Chevy trucks again that they can't deliver. All the car manufacturers are having the same problems. You just have to be more careful with your planning and how you go about your projects, and be ready to act on something you need if you see it. Who knows how long it will last. The thing to do is to keep supporting the suppliers and manufacturers any way you can. Every penny counts and every sale helps.

For your fuel try FHS supply-Red Max fuel.  You may have to buy it in quarts to bypass the hazardous chemical shipping charges but they are very helpful and fast to ship.  I had a case of oil from them in about four days.  If the price of fuel really bother you then consider mixing your own.  You should be able to do that in the $20 gallon range depending on where and how you get your supplies.  If you have a few flying buddies partner up on the purchases.

SIG bought out Graupner and I think Kavan also. That would make a big bunch of cash disappear. Lack of funding is a major problem for a lot of businesses, and causes a lot of them to fail. Just stating the facts.  D>K Steve

When did SIG allegedly  buy Graupner? A quick search still shows them in Germany.; https://www.graupner.com/

Another quick check shows that the SIG/Kavan partnership didn't last. : https://www.kavanrc.com/en/site/about-us
