Title: Sig P-51 foam cores
Post by: Bill Sequira on October 17, 2013, 07:36:15 PM
Hi all,
I am looking for a source for cored foam wing cores for a Sig P-51 kit # CL-21. Preferably a source that already has templates so I don't have to pay a template fee. If anyone knows of one please let me know. Thank you.   H^^

Hey Bill, I see that you live in NC. Will you be at Huntersville this weekend? I will be there and happen to have a complete unmolested Sig Mustang kit that I was planning on bringing to sell. I won't get around to building it, too many kits now. I paid $100 for it and am asking $80. If you are interested I will let you have first crack at it.  Mike

Bill,
Check with Bob Hunt, I think he has them or can direct you to someone who does.

Best,     DennisT

If you have the SIG cores why not cut them up to use as Lost Foam templates and build the wing in the cradles?  That's what I'm going to do with mine.

Scott

Mike, no I won't be at the contest, I need to work this weekend. Scott, no I don't have the kit cores or cradles. I have seen the plane in the past with holes cut in the wing panels...good idea. Thanks Dennis, I'll try to contact Bob about this.

Try SIG, I'm guessing they probably have some.

That is a very heavy wing as it comes from Sig ... it is solid ...

Egg-zactly. Either go ahead and sheet it, then core it...or use the cores and bucks to build a "balsa core" (ribs) wing. Yet another alternative is to dig out the Dee Rice article on his monocoque wing construction. Was that in FM or SN. One or the other.  H^^ Steve

Hi Bill,

Go to Robin's View Productions in the vendor section and check out Mr. Hunt's posting.  Unless it is already sold, he has your wing ready for you at a bargain price.

Contact John Duncan. He has templates and cut me a set with cores. Very light weight compared to stock SIG. I also plan on replacing heavy plastic top turtle deck with molded balsa. Will use plastic as the mold. With hollowed with I don't think there is solid mounting area for the wing mounted gear so planning on fuse mounted aluminum. With setup nose using a crutch construction with provision for removable tank. Power will be either B40 or my Evo  36 with front needle valve setup provided by Bill Lee machining.
