SIG no longer listing C.L. kits.
« on: August 17, 2024, 08:14:37 PM »
Maybe this is old news ?

Last time I checked SIG's site, I could still see a C.L. section, even though none were in stock.

Now they look like they have updated their site and no longer mention C.L.

I'm surprised that the still show free flight kits, but only have the  AMA Racer "in stock", and I'm thinking that once those are gone, that section might disappear also. He's obviously just looking to cater to the R/C ARF crowd. He shows R/C kits but has none of those in stock either. To produce kits, you need balsa to start with, and he doesn't show any of that either.  I think he's leaning on the plastic businesses to help keep it afloat and we will see how far that goes.

Isn't it sad the model corporations chase money instead of an interest in creating craftsmen?  I can't imagine how many people developed skills they used throughout life by building models.   Is the corporate goal to make people dumb and lazy?  There's people in my club that can't do anything, repair minor damage, solder a wire, balance a plane  / prop, etc.   Many cannot even fly with SAFE technology.

Unfortunately we / society are producing generations of useless people with no common sense nor ability to think for themselves. Instructions are as alien to these people as speaking a foreign language as can be witnessed by the dreadful state of cars presented for repairs that should never had occurred if the owners manual had actually been read! A society of instant gratification with all needs satisfied by Amazon / Ebay / social media - we are doomed!  HB~>

No, it's just that they can't make any money at it. They are catering to the market - and it's the market that has changed. It's far, far, beyond just model airplanes, modeling in general, or hobbies. It's absolutely everywhere.

The vast majority of the consumer base has absolutely no interest in anything that requires them to engage on something on a practical level - building or assembling something, repairing something, or even knowing how it works. There's also a subset that actually look down on doing anything with their hands, that's for the little people they call, not them, they are above it.

Why is anybody's guess, there has been a concerted effort for many decades to create what would be called a "class structure" in the USA, with some success, trying to divide people and undermine the concept of personal independence and freedom, along with the peersonal responsibility that comes along with it. Our tiny little corner of society is just seeing the fallout.

You think this is bad, just wait.  AI is going to destroy what remaining critical thinking we have left.  Chat GPT is writing almost every article I read now.

SPOT ON, Steve! For there to be a one world government to exist, as the Bible predicts, capitalism and the US has to cease, and the only way that can happen is from within cause ain't nobody can conquer the US as it now is except from within.  We can only pray that we wake up soon and forestall this craziness.

I've mentioned this before. I would hesitate sending SIG any money as they are struggling financially.

Like a year ago I web-ordered a few CL parts and some fuel. The parts showed up, but no fuel. After repeated emails to them, they just kept telling me the fuel was out of stock. But they never retuned my $$. I finally gave up. Luckily for me the fuel I ordered was only 2 quarts.

Just be careful and go in with your eyes open when it comes to SIG.

I live within ten miles of two major college towns.  Twenty years ago, there were 3 hobby stores that sold RC related stuff and plastic models.

Hobby stores are long gone, but now we have 5 stores that sell recreational marijuana.

Interests shift.

I suspect before long we will have lots of young adults that have numb minds and can't fix or built anything.

I posted here to see if it was "safe" to order from SIG.  I placed two orders for items they said they had in stock.  I received everything relatively fast and well packed.  No problems for me.  SIG was always there, until it wasn't.  I hope New Sig can bring some of it back.

I wonder how many model airplane builders are in the hobby now, compared to a highpoint (maybe in the 1980s)?  I also wonder what percentage of people currently in the hobby build their own planes, cover them with stinky dope, and propel them with castor slime engines?  And then, CL planes are a subset of that.  If that is you, congratulations, you are a rare breed.

Look no further.  That is EXACTLY me.  All I build and fly is nitro planes.  Most are monokote finish, but the last 6 I built have dope on them.  And, I add castor oil to my Omega fuel.

Brett, I agree and please note I originally said they are chasing the money.
