I received a phone call from Tom Dixon this evening concerning the availability of Sig Fuel. Tom contacted Sig this week to place an order and according to the Sig person, Sig would not be in a position to provide/ship fuel until mid-June. Tom knows that many of you use Sig fuel and wanted to make the control line community aware of this situation so you could make other arrangements if necessary.

I've been mixing my own for a number of years but was told recently by my Nitro supplier that it's becoming harder to get and more expensive!
Not sure what all the ramifications of that are. I remember when the Nitro factory blew up many years ago, but haven't heard of any such occurrence recently!
As far as I know the folks that make the Aldrich fuel are still supplying it. Our only remaining Hobby shop here in Tucson is still able to get it!

I've used Byrons fuel for as long as I can remember and it is readily available. It's of very good quality. If your Hobby shop doesn't carry it I'm sure they could. They run a truck around the country delivering to hobby shops in reasonable quantity, saving big shipping costs. I expect you could order directly from them but may have to pay hazardous materials charges.

It is my understanding that nowadays all Nitro comes from China. I have always mixed my own fuels and was getting my nitro from Torco.....but they couldn't help me with one gallon quantities,and neither could VP. They did have a bunch of 66% Nitro model boat fuel with 17% synthetic oil. So what I did was some math and figured that one gallon of this boat fuel has enough Nitro for about 13 gallons of 5% stunt fuel. I then adjusted the oil content to 23% oil mixed 1/2 synthetic 1/2 castor with the correct amount of alky and made myself 13 gallons of stunt fuel.I've been using the fuel and it works great!
The funny part about this is that the 66% boat fuel cost me just a little bit less than if I was able to buy just one gallon of the Nitro from Torco. This procedure is not for everyone,but it worked for me.

Good buy. I was able to bag a couple gallons of 65% when a hobby shop sold. It came in handy for spiking some 10% up to what I wanted. The good part was that since the oil was already there I couldn't under-lubricate the mix.

The fellow I buy nitro from told me that all nitro comes from China. For now, he can get it but future supplies may not be reliable. He supplies fuel to local race tracks and speed shops. He is willing to sell nitro for $25 a gallon. I can get methanol from him or a local auto performance supply shop for $4 a gallon. With oil from Sig, I mix my own these days since a gallon of fuel at a local hobby shop is $20.

After a little searching I was able to find Torco 1 gallon jugs of Nitro right here in Nashville at a local speed shop for $52 a gallon. Much cheaper than Torcofuels on Ebay. The lady at the speed shop confirmed that all nitro comes from China and there was a recent explosion at one of the manufacturing plants this past February. She said the price of nitro is going to go through the roof as a result. If you need it find it now.
