Title: Sig Events at Nats?
Post by: Joe Ed Pederson on March 19, 2019, 03:21:33 PM
The 2019 Nats registration form for Unofficial Events mentions SIG event fees are paid on site.

I couldn't find anything on the AMA site or Sig's website as to what the SIG events are, and on what day(s) the events will be held.

Anybody know the details?

Thanks,

IDK for sure, but perhaps they meant "SIG" as in "Special Interest Groups" like PAMPA, NMPRA, MACA, etc.  y1 Steve

All I can tell you is the control line aerobatic unofficial events are BEGINNER and INTERMEDIATE on Sun. July 14th and the event fee for each of those events are paid to each of the CD's over each of those events at the flying site. The other C/L STUNT unofficial events are the CLASSIC/ NOSTALGIA-30,  AND OLD TIME STUNT EVENTS scheduled on Tuesday, July 16th. Again the event registration fee will be paid to the CD, or his assistant on site the day of events, or anytime on site during day/days prior to contest day. The above mentioned events are scheduled to be done on the grass circles down from the combat circles, unless the site gets deluged with rain, in which case, we would probably be put on the L-PAD. We will put out a flier shortly giving all the details. I don't know if this clears anything up for you Dave. For those competing in sanctioned events, they are required to register through AMA using the sanctioned event registration form, or I guess they can do it on-line now?

Thanks, Steve.  I hadn't thought of SIG standing for Special Interest Group, but that makes perfect sense.

Thanks, Joseph.  I've got my motel reservations to come and fly Beginner Stunt on Sunday.  This will be my first Nats.  I hope I can get in  enough practice time to be able to fly all the Beginner Stunt maneuvers by the big day (July 14).  When I told Jim Lee I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to fly all the maneuvers, he said, "That's why they call it "beginners."  I was encouraged by what Jim said, and I won't be able to come in 2019.  I just hope I don't embarrass myself.

I'm really looking forward to meeting so many fellow CL Stunt fliers, their beautiful planes, and seeing them fly.   That will be the best part.

In addition what  Doug posted:
You STILL have to register at the AMA HQ OR register "On Line" beforehand.
Hope to see you flying at the NATS Steve!
Good luck & "Tight Lines!" H^^

I thought I would have to pay the $50.00 AMA registration fee, but thanks for confirming it.

Thanks for wishing me luck.

Thanks Wes, you are correct. I don't think there is a charge, but still have to register and/or report in to AMA at the desk when you arrive. As for as registration a person can mail the form , or I suppose go online and do it that way. The AMA receptionist will give out a packet with info that will be of help to the contestant.

Brodak has sponsored the Intermediate event since it began (1999?) with plaques to 10 places plus a concours and a "best Brodak kit" award, I believe.

Alan used to collect a TON of stuff for the Beginners (1998?)

I know that MCRC member Dale Josephson has provided a complete, flown and trimmed airplane for the Beginners for several years.

Have fun!

When you sign up for a sig event AMA wants 10 bucks for use of the site, just stop by HQ and they will give you a name badge and get your 10 bucks.

The freebee pile of stuff more than makes up for the 10 buck fee, every body in beginner gets to go to the freebee pile until all the stuff is gone, last year i donated three planes WITH motors ready to fly and will bring a few more this year.
