Sig contest
« on: June 23, 2008, 09:27:13 AM »
This was a first class contest, Mike Gretz and his staff did a great job. Friends, food and great weather (for the most part) and the flying. What more could you ask for. Lots of tent campers, cooking outside, (some of us opted for motels down the road tho).  One not so good news to report on tho. Jim Lee was taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon, and released Sunday to go home. Not knowing all the facts, all I can safely say is that it is a heart related condition. Please pray for Jim and his wife. Later with scores and pictures.

Blessings
Allen

Just got an email from Todd Lee and Jim is doing OK and getting more tests with his doctor, still looking at it as a possible electrolite problem. Gretz mentioned that if they had even a small hint that it was cardiac problem, they would have airlifted him to Des Moines immediately when he got to the hospital at Grinnell. They let him go home Sunday night, and Melvin and Brenda Shute made sure Jim and Lila got home. I think Jim will be back100 percent pretty soon.
I had a great time as usual, an even found a way home that cut about 60 miles of my trip!

Hi All
First of all, I want to thank so much every one who helped us so much this weekend at the Sig Contest...  Mike and Doris Gretz rescued our stuff from the motel, Melvin and Brenda Schuette, Ron Poley and Maggie got my airplane stuff found and in various vehicles, Dan McEntee did a bit of 'follow that ambulance', after Keith Sandberg smacked my very hard head with a brick and said GO to the hospital!!!
The upshot is....    I felt weak, sat down and passed out....   The ambulance was called, I finally consented to go to the hospital...    I was dehydrated and in atrial fibrillation(sp)...   which means I had an irregular heartbeat.   It wouldn't get back on track so they let me transfer to a hospital here in Topeka and see a cardioligist here...
Melvin, Brenda, Ron and Maggie organized a caravan and got all of us and 'stuff' to Topeka in fine shape!!
Did a stress test and echocardiogram (sp) this morning and the doc said it all looked good...   So, I finally got home midafternoon today (monday)....  back to work on wed....
Apparantly base cause was dehydration which caused the ol ticker to not tick right...
So, Every one, Drink a lot of water!!!!!!
And Thanks again to Everyone for their help and good thoughts!!
Jim

You take care of yourself hoss. I'm very happy to hear you're doing better. Maybe you should take an extra day and go back to work on Thursday :)

Hey Jim,
Don't go pushing after having atrial fib' - I tried and it started coming back more easily each time!  It takes us "old timers" like you & me a little longer to bounce back from that particular problem.  (yeah, yeah, I KNOW you're not even close to my age, but my first session with a-fib was a long time ago and knocked me out of my pilot's license.)
God bless ya, friend!

Jim,
Sorry to hear about your trouble with AF.  Glad to hear you're doing well.
I have bouts with Atrial Fibrilation (AF) about once every month or so.  I take several drugs to counteract the effects and stabilize everything or it would be worse.
My cardiologist says primary cause is High Blood Pressure which can be exacerbated by dehydration or getting too tired etc, etc.......Real problem is electrical signals from the pulmonary veins gone haywire.
I've dropped on my face several times also....last time was at VSC last year right after my Classic flight.   Too tired, too hot, too excited.....Rats!!!
Anyway, take care of yourself and don't let it get out of hand....I'm sure they told you that the danger that exists is a stroke if it persists.

Your Friend in AF

I agree with the guys on AF.  I've been on meds for 25 years.  Every once in a while it kicks up.  I took lots of Gator Aid and bananas to the SIG contest.....helps keep the electrolytes in balance.  Good luck, Jim.  It's controllable.

I posted 2 short videos of some of Sunday's events.

Thanks Alan for the pics.  Another contest I have missed this year, but,  the young adults came first this year.  Did not get back in time for the drive up.  By the way did I say they were great pictures.  DOC Holliday
