Sig Akromaster

The Akromaster seems to come up now and then on this forum.  I thought I would post a picture of my most recent build.  The wing is covered with silk and Sig Supercoat.  The graphics are stars by Coverite.  Yes the wing preformed leading edges had a few twists and turns in them.  The wing actually didn't turn out too bad.  It was a fast and easy build.  The Akromaster is a real fun kit and good value for the purchase price too!  I built this for my two year old daughter.  It is powered by a brand new Fox 15BB engine (Yes thats a lot of engine for a smaller airplane).   I haven't flown it yet but it should be a real screamer.  I am looking forward to flying it.  For some reason I always thought the Akromasters were equipped with flaps but that is not so.

I am guessing that you needed a fair amount of tail weight since the  Fox15BB is somewhat heavy, but powerful. Once you break it in, it is a nice friendly engine. I use mine on the Top Flite Flite Streak Arf, and it does a good job there on 52 foot lines. I haven't tried longer since I don't have any longer 0.012 lines.

I think I used about 3 ounces of weight on the tail to get it to balance.  I like the Fox engines so that is why I use them.  I had an old slant plug Fox 15 on it when I built it but couldn't get it to run right so I decided to get the 15BB.  The 15BB runs real good.  I'm looking forward to getting it broke in.

The schneurle Fox 15 has  a LOT more power than the slant-plug 15. It should be able to get the wings to carry the added 5 or 6 ounces, but DO keep the speed up.

That means, in effect, don't try for extemely sharp turns - they bleed off too much speed for the wings to work as well as we'd like. As a trainer? Sounds great. Now, keep the young ladies interested, and developing CL love and skills, both.
