FAI F2B K-Factors Status Report
« on: April 01, 2008, 04:34:34 AM »
Dear Friends
Please take note of the follwing extract from the 2008/1 report of the FAI F2B Work Group:

---
K-Factors:
At their meeting in Lausanne on Friday March 28th 2008, the FAI F2 Subcommittee withdrew Proposal f) paragraph 4.2.14, for conducting a 2 year trial with all K-Factors set to value 1. As per the Minutes of that meeting, it was also agreed that further work needs to be done in the area of F2B Judges’ Training and related matters.

Hi Peter

Thanks you for the report and your work . I think this is a setback ,as a trial period for the K=1 would have shown to be of benefit.
I personally believe the K factors used now are just too far out of line , maybe one day the commitee  wll see fit to have a trial.

Regards
Randy Smith

Maybe if US fliers would join the FAI as well as the AMA there would be a substantial amount of people within the F2B community that fly without K-factors that would have a little input on the subject.  As it stands now there is what 20 guys in the FAI that fly US CLPA no K-factor?  I can see why they decided to drop the proposal.  I am sure and have read where many feel the current k-factor in F2B is just fine with them.  I am sure many arent fine with it as well.

Just a thought someone from the other side of the world pointed out to me and I thought it made sense.

How about if we dropped Expert and Open to just have F2B nation wide as well as the NATS.  Might help keep our lads on top in world competitions.  Just a thought,  DOC Holliday

Heaven forbid you even think about changing the sacred NATS stunt format. Shame on you for even thinking about bringing the US in line with the rest of the world.. Now I'm sorry to say you will need to make a sacrifice to the stunt gods or you will never redeem yourself  LL~

I have already,  I told Mike Keville I would like to help judge Classic at the NATS this year.  Melvin has given me time off to do it.  DOC Holliday

I always find this comment interesting. Makes it sound as if the US is a small portion of the world stunt community that is just holding out.

The point is that K factors have no real purpose, since EVERYONE flies the same maneuvers, therefore the same degree of difficulty for everyone for the entire pattern. The K factors have made everyone concentrate on the back end of the pattern.

It is even possible for a judge to cheat by going up or down  1/2 point on the high K maneuvers, and not even be noticed... AI have seen this happen in person.

As suggested d above, we have more stunt fliers in the USA than any other place in the world. Our system works.

Tom,

One could say that the k factors are the same across the board so everyone flys under the same factor so it is all equal.  One could also say why should inverted flight get the same weight a sq8 or Hourglass since it is so much easier to do.  I see the logic and as long as everyone is flying to the same factor it is fair.

Also, with no K factors the ones with the really good hourglasses and Sqr 8s usually end up winning anyway so it really isnt that much different.  Everyone can do the easy ones good not everyone can do the hard ones good.  So the hard ones separate the pack with or without factors.

You are not saying judges cheat are you?
