Title: Side Header?
Post by: Paul Taylor on May 07, 2012, 03:56:29 PM
I have seen a few photos of side headers. I assume these are out of style and heavy.

Anyone know if these were ever made out of CF? I know about the MAC mufflers, but I think they are still hanging out the side.

Sure would like to try one on a LA .46 #^

why?  the LA runs best with the stock muffler...

I have seen the MACS mufflers used on them and the dont seem to run as sweet...

I have those and sold most of the setups out there, Most used this for/with CF pipes, by the way the LA and  FP run very well piped in a high RPM wet 2 or a HI RPM 4\2

Randy,

Are you still selling side to back headers?

what would a pipe look like for a setup like this. Is it smaller for a 46 size engine?

Yes I still have ones for many ,but not every engine.

The pipe for the FP and LA is smaller diameter than the 46-51 size.  People like Dondi Garrison, Rob Hunt, Rob Gruber and many other used the side to rear pipe setup.
Many VECTOR 40s  had this setup, Steve Buso's LiteWave had many too

I have a club mate that runs both of his LA 46's using the Merco style muffler that is currently available from Ian Russell.
(A good thing about the Merco mufflers is that the two clam shells that make up the expansion chamber can be separated apart so that a hollow thimble type insert can easily be used to tune back pressure.)

I am sure that the stock muffler performs fine but what about the weight and size of it?

Chris,
You got any photos of the setup.

Hey Paul,
I must admit that I have never posted a pic here at Stunt Hanger as I really don't know how to mate!
But please accept that the new Merco mufflers are exactly the same as the old in design and the bolt holes perfectly match the LA 46.

I have seen the run characteristics of a standard LA 46 with muffler and then with the Merco muffler and the run seems to be 'enhanced' or more consistent in some way.

The thimble insert idea harkens back to the old SuperTigre 46 days where it is shed loads easier to loosen the two bolts holding the muffler together and swap out to a different thimble rather than change the venturi insert.

But if you really insist I can get pics of my mates LA 46's with Merco mufflers and learn to post I suppose (or Rustler can chime in here and post pics of his products for me! Ian, where are you?)

Cheers.
