Title: Show and Tell - What are you using for a Field box???
Post by: Paul Taylor on March 03, 2012, 02:27:50 PM
I am always looking to find a better way to haul my stuff. I am not ashamed to still your idea either. LL~

Here is what I do now. One is a home made box got the plans off the internets. The other is a Homedepot box that has a top removable tray. Kind of a pain the the arsh to get my stuff out of the bottom.
I thought about one of the double stack type boxes but I think it would stick up to high and would not allow me to close the lid on my truck.

I am using a Contico tool box that I bought at HD maybe 15 years ago.  It's 21" long, 13" wide, and 20" high.  It will securely hold a gallon jug of fuel in the center bottom, secured by the hole in the caddy.  I keep pretty much everything I need to fly in it, including stooge.  The caddy is pretty cluttered.  Probably don't need that many tanks and props.

I have a stool that can carry all the stuff inside. I use it for R/C and C/L. Cost me $13.00 I think. Modified it to carry a 12V and a Power panel. Props on the side. Fuel inside for a long day. Keep a bottle in the car. Of fuel, that is. D>K

Wynn, your case reminds me of the F2C days.   One small suit case that held all the fuel mixens. the fuel bottle,  lines, props and measuring tube for the fuel. H^^

Roll-around tote by Stanley. Reminds me of Star Wars R2D2! LL~ LL~ LL~
Large wheels, long, folding handle, bottom bin holds two gal. of fuel & lines, syringe, roll of paper towels etc.
Top has two, clear topped side compartments that hold the small stuff you never can find in the bottom of your flight box. HB~>
The large, hinged, center sections holds all the "stuff" you "THINK" you can't live without! Tools, tubing, plugs, etc.
More pics if needed....
Here's a few.....

No pictures, but I use a tackle box for the main field box.  It has a top tray and 3 trays that are behind a front panel.  All the tools go it that one along with props and plugs,  tach in the top tray along with incidentals.

Have a storage seat for lines and all the other stuff.  Never bother to try and put fuel in any box, just carry it.

You might take a look at the Plano #737 tackle box....   Fairly compact, room for lines and handles plus drawers for tools and misc...    No room for fuel.
I'm on my second one.   Got them at Wally world
Thanks

Well,

This was my field box for R/C. Designed for the treck out to the model when the engine quit. That could be a ways!

I have some idea what to put in it for CL, but not totally sure. The starter is going. That leaves space for other stuff.

Is there a "must have" list?

Basically all that is needed on the line is Syringe for prime as some places require you to fuel up first before goint to circle.  Spare prop and glow plug.   If using ni-starter, you might carry a spare.   Then some guys also have a tach.   Now electric doesn't need most of this stuff.   Jus someone to hold the plane. After hauling a big R/C flight box to the control line circle for two years, realizing that I'm not using the Electric fuel pump, the electric starter, or utilizing the 12 volt battery anymore; I decided that I needed to build a dedicated Control Line Flight Box.  Getting together all the tools and flight line equipment I needed for control line flying I designed a box around those materials, including a space for a first aid kit, sunscreen and bug spray!

Here are some photos of my flight box.
