I’m looking for sheet metal (tin). 008 that is more than 4” wide. I’m going to make some tanks and I need 6” wide by 10” long. OR a source for supply.

Can't help you on the 10 inch wide part, but you can get 4x6x .010 galvanized material at a lumber yard. It is commonly called "tin shingles" a more correct name is step flashing. The last ones I bought were .29 cents each. Some lumber yards sell flashing in various width up to 24 inch, by the foot. It will be thicker than .010. I always make my own tanks. The material cost near nothing, but the labor would be pretty poor pay. The nice thing is you can make them the exact size and configuration that you want. The can idea will also work if you have one,

Google on tin punching supplies

It is used by hobbyists for decorative tin items like pie safes, etc.  You can get it in large sheets if you need to.

A couple weeks back I was at a Not local hobbie shop, (60 miles away) I found that the K and S metal display had some sheets, I think were 6 by 12, I will look when I get home from work. it was .008 tinned

A check with the local tin bender found that 28 gauge is .016 and 30 gauge is .013.....    A bit thicker than we need....   Also the maximum-velocity website I found has pinewood derby cars and stuff but no tin....?
I would like to find some tinstock bigger than the 4x10 K&S stuff also...   in the .008 thickness

I only use the K & S stock for my tanks but have a piece of .006 sheet tin 18 inches square. If you want some I will cut a couple of oversize pieces and mail them to you. It is nice stuff and will solder well. I think I got it from Gaylord Ehling at VSC this year.

  I get all the metal I need (any thickness any L or W) from the local scrap iron dealer. They are usually pretty good on their prices and most don't make you buy in bulk. Just another avenue to go down.

McMaster-Carr...do a search for shimstock. I went and looked, but for some reason, the pages don't show up with a specific URL. They have all sorts of materials, but I'd suggest stainless steel. They have several types of CRES, not all of which I'm familiar with. I think 303 or 304 would do fine.  Solder with Sta-Brite. They have .007". Mike Haverly has been making tanks out of bare sheet steel that he got someplace, that's (I think he said) .006" thick.    Steve
