Nice collection there Bill. Many of us kids learned to fly on OK Cub .049's on hollow log Scientific planes. We thought they were really cool back then. Nice bunch of Fox 59's also. I have a couple that I love to fly when there is no one at the R/C field that complains of noise. It seems like all my engines I love to fly are noisy. Anderson Spitfires, Super Cyclones, Atwood Super Champions, and an Orwick. Getting harder and harder to find places to fly the really fun stuff. The noisier the more fun I say. But most do not agree.

Nothing like a screaming Orwick to get the adrenalin flowing. We use to fly them on ball diamonds and school yards. Those days are over. But it is fun to reminisce. That is why I like to see collections like yours. It always brings back memories like the old magazines I have. Guess we were fortunate to grow up during the days of freedom. People came out to watch instead of complain.

Hello Bill sure has a nice collection of OK engines but the Fox 59's are even better (to me). As Jim states it is hard to find places to run old un-muffled engines and it is easy to overheat them trying to quieten them down with custom or stack muffler. Regards Gerald

Yes the 59 has a real Bark!  I flew my 1964 model with the 3 jet carb on a very light Miles Reed fun fly ship.  I used a Tatone Calumet muffler to debark it.  It did cut the power, but on that light ship it Didn't matter much.  Later I used it on an 80" Porterfield.  Now Semco had an excellent line of mufflers.  There were basic mufflers and adapters for almost every engine of the day.  I used an open front style.  Back then, if it looked like a muffler it was OK.  The open front style did cut a little noise.  They still show open Ebay on occasion.

Lately I have run my very early  (1947 Hi Torque SN 11) 59 Longshaft ignition.  I'm using 3 parts Coleman fuel, 1 part two stroke oil.  It still makes people jump back when it fires up!

So, Bill, are the two twin stacks on the middle shelf both 29's or do you have one of the mythical 35's?  Nice collection by the way.

One each.  I didn't think the 35s were more rare than the 29s.  I also have an OK .49 and an OK 60 (top right on shelf picture)  Both of them are 1940 versions

Thanks Bill , nice to see your Fox 59's kitted out with mufflers and have a Semco too but it did seem a little heavy. I started building a Lethal Lucy for one of my Fox 59's . Was going to use a short shaft with an extension as the original Leon Shulman design used the longshaft Fox 59 . I brought a tongue muffler from Brodak for the 59 that straps on but I have not tested it yet.

I put a tongue muffler with the holes drilled out some for my Super Cyclone, but it was still pretty loud. I think it would be better if I would have drilled more holes the same size. It is in my Boxcar Chief right now with open exhaust. and a 12:8 power prop. I need all the power I can get to fly the porky thing. LOL

One thing I found when I had the Super Cyke on my Playboy Sr. that going to a 14-6 prop was much quieter. I have an Olhsson sideport on it now which is much quieter than the Cyke.

The lower noise (and frequency) of a bigger prop with lower tip speeds is always an appeal to me with 'old' engines or just those tractor style engines like ST 60 or diesels like a Mills.
