Shady Business Dealings
« on: July 23, 2017, 02:50:17 PM »
This is a shout out to fellow modelers.  Do not do business with John Knoppi or Rich Ambler.  John will tell you one thing but when it comes down to it he doesn't follow through.  He gets what he wants at all costs.  He doesn't return phone calls unless he wants something.  It has been said that he is someone not to do business with but you have to live and learn as they say.  They are not modelers.  All I am trying to do is keep control line combat hobby going but it's not easy when you have one person who you thought was a friend tell you that yes if you need it you can have it back but what it boils down to is you don't get it back.  People try to take advantage of your good nature and they lie to you.  Ambler is one of them.  We are in this for the hobby.  We don't care about the awards, the accolades but when you do good at something you have all sorts of people coming out of the woodwork.  Somebody who has built well over 800 combat planes in 11 years, try to help people when they ask, trying to keep the hobby going, get screwed over.  Almost makes you want to quit the hobby and quit building airplanes because of people like this.  For all you real modelers who sit down and build their own equipment do not do business with them.  They are just a bunch of wanna bes.

What is their business name?

I learned a long time ago to NOT loan anything to anybody. Give it to them and don't expect it back or don't give it to them.

I loaned a portable drill to my X son-in-law and got it back all screwded up. Had to send it in for repair. Then my wife loaned him (I wasn't home) our car jack out of the T-Bird. You guessed it, came back screwed up! Boy was I pissed. HB~>

Sorry to hear about your experience.

Some guy with no history on this group, and who hides behind a 'nym joins up for no other reason to bad-mouth someone, and you automatically believe it?

Yes, it may be true -- but you have no way of knowing.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

This is actually Jeff Dawson. I am modeler, a real modeler.  I am not hiding behind anything.  I just don't have have the time to get on the internet or websites because I am busy building model airplanes.  When a so called modeler does something wrong to another modeler then it needs to be put out there.  This isn't bad mouthing anyone.  The situation needed to be addressed and he lied to my wife.  I am not a fly night modeler. I have been building model airplanes since I was 12 years old.

I have been selling airplanes since the 1980's.  What have you done.  You can believe it, I have no reason to lie. I don't play that game.  The other guy Rich Ambler screwed over another guy in Kentucky.  So, no I am not bad mouthing anyone.  I am speaking the truth and just letting people know what they are like.  They do not have a business, they are a one man show like me.  I am not the only one who has had problems with them.

Knowing Jeff, this is something he feels is serious. Jeff doesn't do Internet or computer stuff. I don't know what's going on in this situation, but it seems Jeff feels strong enough about it to bring it up.
Hope all is well Jeff, I'll give you a call soon.

What have you done.

Well, first, if you look at my post count you can see that people on this forum know me, whether they like me or not.

Second, I've been building, designing, and flying all sorts of models since I don't know when.  If you count putting two "skeeter" models together into a twin as "airplane design", then since I was 8 or 10.

Third, I've been involved in business long enough to know that when someone unknown bursts onto the scene and says such things about someone else, then someone is in the wrong.  However, without further proof you can't know who.  I've seen it swing every possible way, from baseless slander to accurate reporting of fraud, with some rather astonishing variations in between.  Since Dane vouches for you, I'm more ready to believe that your statement is legit.

Fourth, I started flying serious CLPA in 2010, crashing at every contest I entered, and was flying Expert by 2015.  I had to take 2016 off with joint problems, but I'm back and managing to put in credible flights for bottom-of-the-pack expert.

Jeff, being a low-time poster and using a pseudonym is what raises doubts. Your name gives you credibility. People are not questioning your integrity or your "cred". How can they if they don't even know it's you?

BTW,  long time no see. Whazzup?

Hey Bill...Long time no see or talk.  I haven't had a way to get in touch with you.  Are you still with Mike at the Hobby Hanger?  I check on you and Mike Greb.  I am not a computer person so I don't get on these forums all that much.  I am busy building planes and had some health issues the past couple of years. I had a mini stroke on my 50th birthday.  Went back to the Grabber last year and took 3rd.  Check Northwest Flying Lines check Bladder 2011, 2012 and 2013.  You will see what I have been up to.  Back in 2013 someone counted over 250 of my planes over the weekend.  Planes that I built like I did up in Dallas.  I miss flying with you guys.

Tim...Sounds like you are a stunt flyer and I have nothing but respect for those people.  It takes a lot to build a big beautiful airplane and put it through those maneovers.  My dad was a stunt flier and very good friends with George Aldrich.  I still have my first handle that George gave me when I was 12.  My dad had me at the 64 Nats in a stroller. I was born in 63.  I tried flying stunt but I have the attention span of a gnat.  So I stuck to flying combat and running slot cars.  I am going to try and make Huntersville. It's 50/50.  It sounds like you are a real modeler and nothing but my respect. I am just trying to warn real fellow modelers about two individuals with no good intent.  John does fly and won the Nats in 15 Fast Combat.  The other guy is not a modeler.  You think you are helping them and they are try to make money off of you.  All my stuff is made by hand.  I cut my own wings and I make my own parts.  My wife and good friend help me.  I am a one man workshop.  I enjoy this as a hobby and a lot of fellow modelers that have bought planes lately helped keep lights on and a roof over our head.  To those that did...Thank you.  I have kept quiet about this for a long time but recently a friend of mine got screwed over by one of them he won't say who so enough is enough. It was time to let fellow modelers know about them.
