How reliable is Sig these days?
« on: November 26, 2012, 11:11:47 AM »
I'm thinking of getting some kits for young relatives for Christmas this year.  I'm eying the Sig AMA dart, but my LHS has gotten burned on slow Sig orders as recently as this spring, so I'm wondering.

How reliable is Sig these days?  Have you ordered anything in the last few months?  Did it show up promptly?  If I order stuff by December 1 do I have any chance of it being received by Christmas?

TIA.

Before giving Sig any more potentially hurtful "press", how about picking up the phone and calling them??? HB~> HB~> HB~>

Tim,

I don't know about Sig's Darts, but I recently ordered dope and silk. Had the stuff in less than a week.

Because the answer to "will you ship on time" is always "yes".  The reality can only be found out by experimentation, or by asking.

Charles's answer is much more helpful, and good press for Sig, besides.

Oh, cripes! SIG has for many, many years been exceedingly reliable. This tradition of customer service most certainly continues.

Posts such as the one opening this thread are nothing more than nonsense.

Tim,

If your LHS isn't a big producer, thay may be on the bottom of Sig's product shipping list?

Stores that do a higher volume sometimes receive better attention than those that don't.

Nice of you to play Santa with model stuff. Kudos!

Not very likely. Much, much more likely is that shop in question is fibbing and it grates to see said fibs introduced to this site.

I ordered a 4 qts of dope and some miscellaneous items about a month ago. Recieved them within a week. I rate their service excellent...no worries.  Yesterday I went to log in but forgot my customer number.for log-in.  E-mailed them requesting it and recieved an answer the next day. Sig is back! and deserves our business. 8)

As stated earlier,  the phone is the best way to get an order verified or placed.   Remember sometimes the manufacturer may not have in stock what you want.   This goes for any manufacturer.    The good old telephone will beat the E-Mail as far as getting results any day.

My experience is same as others here. I called SIG and human answered the phone, was genuinely interested in my needs and I received my order within a week. It was a refreshing change. They seem to "get it" when it comes to customer service. YMMV, but my dealings with them has been nothing but positive for 30 years.

I just received my SIG order via USPS, standard shipping, no hurry stuff...100% filled, but then I didn't order any SIG Cubs. I ordered it the 19th and got it today, Nov. 26, with a holiday weekend between...I'm happy.  I sent Mr. Fitton a PM about the munitions purchase.  H^^ Steve

Speaking as a hobby retailer, the only problem we have had with Sig recently was a function of their online ordering. Our first online order was held up for one or two items that were out of stock. Apparently that is the default procedure. Now we just put "do not hold order" in the comment field. We never had a problem when we used to fax our orders, but after the fax machine gave up, we reluctantly had to join the 21st century and start ordering online. If you call in your order, verify that everything you want is in stock, tell them not to hold your order, and you will have your stuff in less than a week.

I have been a Sig retail dealer for the past 21 years. Other than the period when they were changing ownership Sig has filled my orders quickly. If something was out of stock they advised me at the time of order. In my opinion Sig is one of the better vendors that RSM deals with.

If your LHS is telling you that they can not get product from Sig they are either lying to you or they are just not ordering it from Sig. This tends to happen quite often in the industry. I have had customers call me on the telephone and give me royal H--l because they had been told by their LHS that RSM could not supply fuel tanks, ST needle valves or kits. In every case we had not received an order or even an inquiry from that particular LHS. This is no doubt the case with your LHS. Just give SIG a call and ask them if the kits are in stock. If so place your order.

Well, I'll add my confirmation to the rest already here.
Your local Hobby shop is most likely Bull Shxxtng you.  They probably only want to order stuff when they have a large order to save on shipping, or they have a cash flow problem (there's a lot of that going around right now), hence they tell their customers that they can't get the stuff they want.
I've ordered dope and other things from Sig as recently as two weeks ago and got the order in 4 days...a gallon of regular clear and a gallon of lite coat and several colors.  The same kind of service I've always gotten from them.
If I order something they don't have in stock, they tell me immediately.  The longest backorder I've ever had with them was two weeks.
Also they're easy to talk to and friendly...call them and order the stuff direct.
I understand wanting to support a local Hobby Shop but if they are treating you like this...order direct.
You might even consider ording from Eric at RSM...as he said He's a Sig Dealer, a control line flier, and a heck of a nice guy!  In fact if it's kits you want he has a lot of them.

Our first online order was held up for one or two items that were out of stock.

Y'know, I bet that's the problem.  The LHS owner is a straight-up guy, but he doesn't understand ordering that doesn't involve clickity-clicking into a keyboard, all email notification, and no humans visible in the loop.

I ordered a Sig Buster from the LHS since I had a coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase.  The kit arrived very fast.   I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the wood, laser cutting and silkspan in the box.  Sig is now selling wood again and I will be placing an order very soon.

I ordered a Sig kit a couple of years back through an on-line hobby shop that had a good reputation and I had bought from them before.  The kit did not arrive after a couple of weeks, so I contacted the hobby shop and they said Sig had them on back order, but were expected to ship any day now.  More time went on and after several unsuccessful calls to the store, I finally called Sig and asked about the back ordered kit.  The reply was that they are fully stocked on that item and they would ship the same day they got an order.  I explained the situation and they asked me the name of the hobby shop.  They then told me there were no outstanding orders for that store and there was no record of an order for that kit.  They asked if I wanted to order directly from them and I declined, saying I wanted to give the hobby shop a chance.  Sig asked if I wanted them to call the hobby shop and I agreed.  I had my kit within a few days.
