Lone Star Balsa
« on: February 02, 2012, 02:06:37 PM »
Lone Star has just received a shipment of balsa that looks like 80's and early 90's.  Best load seen in a while and
"most of it is LIGHT", but we paid through the nose.  Need balsa - give Mike a call....

If you want custom sizes ask Mike about odd lengths (like 30" and 33") Sometime you can find really good light balsa in odd lengths..

Mike said he just opened several bundles of 42" balsa.. All very light - having trouble finding anything hard enough for spars, etc..

Fantastic new Riley! #^
Had started wondering if there was much good balsa let for us.

I did receive some nice 4-6lb from you last year, most of it seemed to be toward the 6lb end and was just perfect for the project.
Currently hope that you have some that leans more to the 4lb/cf stuff and hope to order some in next few weeks.
Stocking up!

I have asked Mike to post some pics of balsa he is grading from last shipment. Don't know when he will
have them up on Lone Star site.

HI Riley,

Will y'all still do the .077 sheeting?

Thanks!

Howard, always some..... Amount depends on size and weight needed.  As you probably know most blocks will yield
some of each A, B, and C with less pure C, depending on how the block is cut at the mill.. Allowing as much time as possible
always helps.

By the way, I heard rumors you are going all electric!

I was in their shop Fri., the (24th), and saw that same stack of odd length lite balsa and the picture does not show the top row with more 3.4 to 4.7wt. balsa. LoneStar has a tremendous ampount of the 3.4 to 6.0 balsa now. It all is very very nice white-white virtually blemish free balsa. The sad part is I did not buy the first inch of it. I did't need any at the moment, but had his (2) hard working tech's cut some (AAA-B/C) grain sheets for stabs for some profile stunt trainers we are making. Need the hardness and extra wt. to better balance  probable nose heavy airframe. The guys there said they have not seen wood this good in a long time. Get it while you can, but they do have a bunch of it.

I received an order about two weeks ago that I ordered to build the SWIFT. Talked to Mike and he was extremely helpful and when the order arrived, it was in perfect shape and some of the prettiest wood I've seen in a long time. Will be placing another order for my Bonzo stunter project.

Thank goodness there is only one Riley Wooten.   Met him first time in Texas at the 64 Nationals.   Big guy, I think is 6' 4" tall and a real gentleman.   Was one of my heroes then and still is.

One of my first good flying UC planes was a VooDoo with Veco C/S. Then another with Johnson C/S. Seen the man at VSC several years ago maybe longer.

Riley Wooten, are you the same person who designed the Carl Goldberg Voodoo series?  I think I remember your name being on the box.

If you are, I still have my Voodoo from the 70's.  Flew it last year.

Regards....
Yep, fraid so!  Thanks to all you guts who have built and flown any of my designs... Hope you had fun!!!
