I have a lot of balsa that I need to sell but have a bit of a problem. Does anyone know where you can buy heavy duty cardboard boxes one at a time. When I was producing kits, I bought from ULine but I do not want nor need to buy 50 boxes. I only need a few that would measure about 37" long by 8 inches square or somewhere in that neighborhood. That size seems to be the problem.
I will not advertise it until I can find boxes to ship it in. I have looked on the internet and not had much luck.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

You might try places that sell golf clubs for boxes that size. I am not sure if they give the boxes to the purchaser with the clubs or throw them away.

Try U-Haul or one of the moving services to see what they offer. They have several different specialty boxes for packing for a move. Maybe even just buying raw corrugated stock and making them with simple folded over ends. The first one might be a B#tch but would get easier with practice. Just cut to length, score where the folds are and bend against a stiff table edge or corner of a wall, then cut the end flaps. I got some wood one time from Bobsyouruncle and he sent it in a flower box, pretty much the shape you are looking for.
Type at you later,

Try independent gun shops. I have had good success with the boxes long guns and shotguns are shipped in. The ones I know just throw them out. They also are sturdier than the run of the mill cardboard box.

You might also check with FedEx and UPS Stores Mike. Good luck!

We run a gun shop and have several boxes which could work. I need balsa. Barter?

It’s some work, but many years ago I worked at a paper warehouse that supplied small independent print shops. We would wrap the product in heavy kraft paper. Cut flat cardboard to fit the top one bottom of the stack. Hold it together with strapping tape. Then another layer of kraft paper.
No actual box but we shipped paper up to 22x34 inches, a few hundred sheets at a time on LTL carriers like central freight with good success.

Mike,
Your local sign shop will have boxes like that. The vinyl they purchase comes in long square boxes.
Ask me how I know? LL~
Good luck.

Mike,
Boxes from the following stores are good: guitar, furniture, bicycle. Build the boxes inside-out, taking advantage of existing fold lines where possible, otherwise cutting through one layer on the fold lines. A heavy duty stapler is a good idea, like a Rapid HD31.
Or, if you want to do the job more quickly, buy large sheets of cardboard from a local box-maker. I buy 79" x 54" sheets at about $4, enough for several balsa or kit boxes. In my region, the firm is Diamond Container.
