Vinyl lettering
« on: May 05, 2009, 09:28:29 PM »
I'm finally getting the paint on my Tempest again after the problem I had with the paint pulling up with the mask.  I'm thinking of using vinyl letters instead of painting and risking the mask again.  Can you use urethane clear over this type of lettering?  Is this lettering heavy?

Urethane works fine on vinyl letters if you give ample time for the vinyl adhesive to set up for several days first. And gently burnish the edges down too so they lay perfectly flat.. You also must gently scuff/sand the shiny surfaces so that the urethane has something to bite into. The weight is going to depend on what size and how many letters/ numbers you use. I used vinyl with urethane on Nobler below ...

By All Means check out RG Graphix in Farrell PA operated by Ralph Geese. Ralph has advertised in both Stunt News and CLW. He does excellent work, my personal appraisal) and has done the same for many "Names" in the Stunt world. His telephone number is: (724) 981-2914. Please see my most recent article in Control Line World (CLW)!
