Second Wind
« on: July 07, 2015, 12:46:44 PM »
For those of you who do not venture onto the All Amp'ed Up forum here, I'm presenting a few photos of my new Second Wind electric, retract twin design. Calling it new is a bit inaccurate; I've been working on and off on this model for nearly seven years! It's done and flying now, however, and I'm very pleased with it.

This model has 653 square inches of wing area and is powered by two E-Flite Power 10 motors that spin counter-rotating props. There is one APC 10x5E and one APC 10x5EP.  The ship is fitted with E-Flite 10-15 size retracts, and all the motor and retract functions are controlled by a Will Hubin prototype twin timer.  This timer has a pot on it that let's the user adjust the RPM's of one motor versus the other; great trimming tool...

If you are interested in reading more about this model, there are 13 pages of information about it, and a few other twins that I'm working on, on the All Amp'ed Up forum.

Hello Bob

It's great to know you're all right.  :)

The Second Wind is magnificent and nearly seven years of development, can only give this great machine for aerobatics.

I have added this photos in my file that I have since I follow your project.

I hope to see you put here a video of one of the flights to complete your mission in this release and letting us salivating!  #^

A big hug

Nice, great lines on this bird.
"This timer has a pot on it that let's the user adjust the RPM's of one motor versus the other; great trimming tool..."   are you using this to create yaw or just neutral ?    You making the Nats this year ?

Hi Bob,
That's a positively incredibly beautiful airplane...makes me wish I could build one.

Most of all it's wonderful to see you up and around in the land of the living.  Your innovation and craftsmanship always seems to shine brightly in everything you build.

Magnificent...wish I could see it in person and fly it!!!! y1 y1   #^ #^

Wonder of wonders is that I'm actually finishing the Electric that I started abput three years ago using you list of materials you graciously provided.  Everything you suggested then is still very usable.

A Twin is next!!!  although I will probably opt not to use retracts.  Any teething problems with them?

Are plans for yours available yet...I'd consider them a great to getting one built.

Right now I'm playing nurse and full time caregiver to my wife following open heart surgery but she's improving rapidly and I'm itching to get the electric finished.

Incredibly beautiful !  I also like the simple paint scheme. Not to busy and very complimentary to the airplane.

Bob, you have a winner for sure. All the best at the Nats.

Hi Bob

So glad to see you feeling better and back doing what you love.  The model is beautiful.  I wish I could get into electrics but I guess I have too much fuel in my veins.  Take care of your back.  After having two spinal fusions and a laminectomy, I feel your pain.

I just love your twin and it's predecessors, Bob. 'so happy that you can at least work on it and realize the joys of completing a real masterwork! Best wishes for the best outcomes possible in your physical challenges so that you can perhaps fly and build with minimal pain. Our contest is back at our grass circles at the Berea fairgrounds this September - if the rascals don't destroy them during this extended rainy season. It would be great to see you there, although I expect that your back should not be subjected to the long ride. 'all our best!

Hi Bob

The airplane looks fantastic, but as already noted, the best part is that you are standing while holding it!  Joan and I will begin the long drive to Muncie tomorrow and the thought of seeing and talking with you will certainly be a trip highlight!

Take care and see you soon.

Hi Bob,
I've been following the thread on the electric side of this forum with great interest, so a big congrats for finishing it so well after so much research and experimentation! The way you share everything with the rest of the world is so much appreciated. I often just take a quick glance at all of the thread titles and names, but if I see "Bob Hunt" I stop dead and read instantly. I just know that......."here comes some good info"! This development of venturing into twin motor power and posting so much detail, is just sooooo good!

I also agree with Chris Cox, when he said that the best part is to see you standing while holding the model. For the last few years, I have been suffering with lower back and neck problems myself so I understand this quite well. My problem does not need surgery at this time so I am really grateful for this reprieve. Flying big C/L models with a good pull on the lines, is a good adrenalin trip, but not when your back is giving problems, so I wish you well my friend and sure hope that you get to fly it at the Nats, even it if it is just a demo! I will be thinking of you and watching your Nats adventure with keen anticipation from down here in Darkest Africa!
