Search term hints
« on: June 04, 2017, 10:08:28 AM »
I know some of you have cracked the Boolean code for searching this site

I have not

So what are the proper inclusion or exclusion codes

I used to find "F Twister" or F+Twister or just Francherized Twister useful on some search engines, but not so much here on SH

So, as example, if I want to see only the threads about the Magnum 52 and not every thread with Magnum or 52 in it  what is best search term?

TIA

Follow on question...is it possible once a search has come back, to then search THOSE results?

Searching for "Fancherized Twister" might work better. One "R" in Fancher. But yeah, the Search function on SH doesn't ever work for me. Maybe it's one of those extra-cost options? It's possible to search SH only by using Google. IIRC, you enter "Stunthanger.com + Fancher + Twister", or "Stunhanger.com + Magnum + XLS.52".
Something like that, anyway. I'm sure Tim will be along shortly to 'splain any errors made in this.  ;) Steve

Thanks Steve...and I do know the roper spelling of Fancher....just my brain always first types Francher and some times I don't catch my own errors

I did notice the menu for "Search" that has a dialog box for "Advanced" search   vs the open search box near top upper right

May google efficient web searching later this morning and see what the inter web suggests

Blame it on these new fangled so called key boards.  I remember when a key board was a portable piano/organ.   Smith-Corona is what we typed messages on.  Now talk about errors when I try to text somebody on the cell phone.   I guess I have fat clumsy fingers. D>K

Magnum 52 -- anything with "Magnum" or "52"
+Magnum +52 -- anything with "Magnum" and "52" ("+" means "only stuff with this")
"Magnum 52" -- looks for the exact phrase
"Magnum 52" kitty -- anything with either the phrase "Magnum 52", or the word "kitty"

Thanks Tim

I am used to the old Boolean AND OR NOT conventions and do use "xxx" or -Xx or +xx quite a bit--- but rarely seem to remember I can gang them up

Just needed a refresher

Steve... curious, I suppose I am a bit young to appreciate your humor....or even pretend to Get It....grin

BUT I do remember in the early 80s the Army sending me to a school for Xenix OS in Laurel MD. The 65 year old+ gents trying to teach us youngish Army (High School drop outs) (( why we were drafted in the 70s)) tended to dress pretty weird and all wore Fedoras  IIRC

BUT I only met Tin Hat guys on NON Micro soft OS BBSs....jest sayin
