Like many of us, Bob Baron practiced at the now defunct Rich's Hobby Towne in Parsippany N.J.

I am building my version of the "Humbug" that was developed by Bob and Bill Netzband. In keeping with the Charles Dickens theme, I will call it "Scrooge". It will be powered by a Cobra 2814/16 motor.

This is my first electric that I am building in preparation for my new full bore Pampa ride that will be called "Ragtime".

Excuse me, I thought this thread would be about a launching scrooge.  y1 Steve

Scott,

I could always add 3 sub rudders!

Actually the fuselage is much deeper and it looks a little less like a combat ship. (I hope)

I don't have the slightest idea how to hook up the wires... Is it tab "A" into slot "B"?

Crist Rigotti and Mike Scott will be helping me.

My new Pampa ride "Ragtime" is on paper for electric or RoJet .67. The wing is started . It will have a wide fuselage and cheek cowls and it will look like a midget air racer. Not like others that you see.

I want to see what works at the Team Trials, before making a final decision on power.

I am having trouble sending more pictures. The size is re reduced and not too big

I don't know if it's going to fly particularly well, but it definitely will look cool.

Brett,

I don't have the slightest idea how it will fly either. Bob Hunt flew the original and said that he was surprised at how good it was..  Thanks, I think it looks cool too. (Even if Scott wants more rudders.)

I have not flown much since my Bypass surgery 4 years ago, and I was doing too much for everyone else. It is time to be a little selfish. About all I have done in the  past few years is judge.

At minimum this will help get my hand back in while I am working on a serious ship.

Well knowing you, it should fly as well as your other designs.    H^^

By the way need to get my Hobo dusted off and waiting on wind for the Vagabond now I've tamed it down a little. D>K

What's the thinking on the three rudders/fins?

Are the three large rudders just there for a new, unique, unconventional look on a unique, unconventional plane, or are they there for some desired performance characteristic?

I incorrectly stated "rudders", I should have said "fins".  You can never have too many fins!  Also, since it is a bug, it needs some eyes.  See example...

I think that PA would be even more fun if we instituted substantial originality points.  Go for it Tom!

 Tom,
Look cool, how are you mounting the battery? On my first electric (a Tutor II) I mounted it across the profile fuse and wound up with almost 60% aft of the leading edge to get the CG right. Leave room to move it around so you don't need extra balance weight. If this is the first venture into electric land one piece of advise is by a top of the line (expensive) charger. The charger is were people had LIPO problems, they are great packs if you charge them gently.

Best,   DennisT

Doc,
Thanks for your continued support. My mind always has another design beating inside my head. I wish I could build them all. Thanks for building and testing the "Vagabond" I still have to build one for myself. Right now the efforts are in finishing the "Scrooge", finishing the "Jet Falcon". and the brand new "Ragtime" for Expert stunt.

Brent.
My friend,Ed Elasick was the first with 3 rudders with his "Impala". Maybe it rubbed off. In reality I just think the airplane cried out to be different.

Scott,
That was a fishy remark if I ever heard one.  I love your shared humor.

We used to have originality points until some people decided it was foolish for all the small changes made to airplanes. In fact, originality points led to the rapid development of stunt.

Dennis,
Thanks for the encouraging words. The battery bay extends through the leading edge, back to the main spars. I also have a high end charger, that is capable of charging 4 batteries at a time.
