This is a current project, a scratchbuilt and designed Curtiss Helldiver stunter that uses a Brodak "Fancy Pants" wing with modified tips. The moments are stock "Fancy Pants" and it will use an FP.35 for power. Wingspan is 45".

Great looking project. It's neat to see a warbird based stunter that's a little different from the usual. I can't recall seeing a Helldiver based stunter before.
-
beautiful work,warbird!
-
Wayne,
That is beautiful.
BTW, I am still waiting for a call from you.

That's very nice! I recall some years ago at Mile Square someone was flying his own design Helldiver R/C sport pattern ship. Nice to see planes that aren't modeled very often.
-
MAN Another unique project, looks well executed again,, cant wait for in color on this one!

Hey Warbird,
Fantastic! I love the Helldiver series, and this one looks great. I've always threatened to build the previous version using the SB3C bipe for a semi-scale stunter because I love bipes and I love the pre-WWII paint schemes the Navy had back then. More pics!! Especially as you do the color!!
Blessings,
Will

SWEET! Can't wait to see the paint job.

Years ago a good friend of mine built a profile, stunt, Big-Assed Bird and really enjoyed it. It grooved something feirce. Neat project; it's really good to see those subjects that should be built....getting built! Very nice and tidy workmanship there. H^^
-
Thats an awesome plane! Great job so far!
-
Beautiful plane !! Love the cowl
-
Very impressive indeed!!! H^^
-
Looks good Leester !!!
-
What can I add that hasn't been said already. H^^
-
Beautiful Model!, no doubt, but it's an fUgly airplane. I think it's nickname was the "Rhino".
-
Thanks Doug, I agree so ugly is purty! y1
If anyone would care to get into the guts of this "Big Assed Bird", and a little story about how this model came to be, go over to the Building Techniques section and see "Anatomy of the Helldiver"
-
I'm on my way! y1 #^

Very nice work!
I found the Fancy Pants to want a LOT less flap movement that elevator....fairly short-coupled...
Have fun!
-
Thanks for the heads-up Peabody. I built the plane without any control system access, but that's actually how I've got the controls set up. The flaps do have a little more area than the Fancy Pants to get the proper cosmetic wing taper for the Helldiver, but they don't have a lot of deflection. I haven't actually measured it, but it will be perfect (heh-heh :##).
For what it's worth, the stab and elevator actually have quite a bit more area than the Fancy Pants did too.

All of you need to join the Piston Poppers. Then you can be there when Wayne brings in all of his project for our show 'n tell... They are a treat!
