Super Combat Doodle Streak
« on: February 06, 2023, 07:34:44 PM »
Like the title says.  A club member recently gave me a Super Combat Streak that he got in a plane lot from and estate.  It's in pretty bad shape so he was just going to scrap it.   But it looked salvageable to me so I'm going to do minimal fixing up of the plane to use as a beater.  There's been a lot of attention to how the Doodle tail helps the profile Flite Streak,  but I was just wondering if a Doodle Streak stab and elevator would help the Super Combat Streak.

If I recall, the Super Combat Streak is full bodied fuselage.  I have a Doodle Streak.  It has an elongated profile fuselage and enlarged tail feathers.  It is one of the smoothest planes to fly (.35 size/modern 25) which I have. I love it.  It has a Magnum XL 25 on it. The wing is a preserved ARF wing.  When the original fuselage started to wiggle out front, I put a whole new solid fuselage on it. The original ARF fuselage was built-up and only tolerated around 50 flights with the vibration of a Fox 35.  I had read that with a Fox 35, that would happen at around 50 flights.  With a combat streak front end that should not be a problem.  The issue is extending the fuselage.  Here are the dimensions I used:

Fuselage - 28 1/2 length from the extreme front to the rear up under the horizontal stab.
Elevator - 24 inch at back edge
Horizontal Stab - 23 inch at back edge
Rudder 5 1/2 at the trailing edge.

This worked well for me.  Have fun!

The Doodle Streak tail was designed by Bill Netzeband at my request. It turned a combat design into a smooth stunter.

It really works!

I must say Larry that I am glad you had the idea.  It sure made a nice smooth flying plane.

I'm familiar with the Doodlebug, but don't recall seeing anything about a Doodle Streak.  I always thought the Flite Streak flew fine, at least the ARF that I have does. I just can't picture the tail end of a Doodle Bug helping the Streak to fly any better?? Anyone got a picture or two to post.

The Doodle Streak, at least mine, being longer, is a bit slower. It's no longer a purposed to be a slow combat plane but more on the line of a 35 sized stunter.

If you do a search, Doodle Streak is mentioned on several other threads.  I see that some didn't make the fuselage longer.
