Man, the Scissor type line connectors are not a cheap date.

Do any of you make your own?
If so, how?
Can you use Music wire?
What diameter wire for .40 size airplanes?

Does anyone have a good bulk source?

Chris,

If we are on the same page regarding the "scissor" line clips, actually the package reads McRosco Snaps are readily available in almost every discount and department store that has a fishing department.  For my lines, .015 I purchase  size #5 rated at 110 lbs comes in a package of 10 and they are American Made  j1  Do not have the receipt but I'm guessing they were around three dollars for the package.  This may be spendy, but since they last for an awfully long time and considering the reason you and I use them, I step up and then I know that  my plane is not going to go it's own way with me looking like an idiot for not connecting it properly.
If you need additional info:  www.BSFishTales.com

Hope this helps

Carl Shoupe has a tool for bending clips in a range of lengths, which is what you need if you are using a hard point handle.

And the tool does work.  Have been using it with the Fancher style handle since returning from Tuscon.  Also his swegging tool is the neatest for making lines.  DOC Holliday

Maybe its just me, but for a couple bucks a pair, with one pair required per handle and one pair per set of lines, the insurance of using commercially available hardware well outweighs the cost savings.  Not to mention the PITA factor of dealing with bending music wire and hoping it doesn't fail, at best reducing the plane to toothpicks and at worst creating a fly-away condition.

Some people involved with the hobby can probably fabricate a substitute easily and safely, while others will be putting themselves and anyone around them in danger trying to save a few dollars.

A nine iron is a tool used in Flog. Bill knows of them, and I'll bet he has wrapped a few asround a tree. Maybe not. Tossed into a lake??

Ah... FLOG!!!!!!
Well, Ty, being a poor kid, I never broke or threw away anything "intentionally".  I did once, however, bust the head on a MacGregor Tommy Armour Silver Scot (persimmon) driver right after I hit a BAD drive.  Seems that slamming it down on the tee box must have stress fractured it.  Next hole, the ball went about 230 yds, and half the head went about 175yds. right behind it!
Kinda strange to be holding the shaft with just a junk of the head still attached............

As I need lots of line clips in various lengths, I used to make mine from .047 piano wire using snipe-nose pliers, brute force and the little closures from SIG clips.

I now use the tool, techniques and material shown here:

Now the tool I got from Carl and his words at VSC state .047 music wire.  You make severa clips of various lengths to use on the hard point handles.  So far I have a dozen flights on my Accentor with the RO-Jett 40 and no problem.  Might have to go to that other site to get Carls attention about this tool.  DOC Holliday

I am working on a run of clip benders and when I have them done I will let you know. The tool is made for .047" music wire ( I used K&S music wire ) I made up some clips with this wire and pulled one to over 100 lbs. and it held up good so I then hooked it to one of the Sullivan Large Line Connectors (50lbs. rated) and I pulled this until one failed I pulled at least 150lbs. the line clip that I made held up good the Sullivan Line Connector failed. Carl,  I have been flying the Accentor quite a bit with the RO-Jett 40 BSRE.  The lines are .015 X 62.  Your swegging tool and line connector tools are being used with the Fancher Handle on this setup.  Highly reccommended tools.  DOC Holliday
