Sceptre Flight Engine Tests Gone for Good?

The server at www.sceptreflight.net can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.

Got same result in both Google Chrome and Mozilla FireFox. Is this engine test site gone for good?

I hope not! I was looking for an engine review just now and it looks like the site is just down.

Bill

Hopefully not gone because this has happened a couple of times before and I think they're doing some maintenance on the server (Dreamhost). I can't even log in to upload new tests right now so it's just a matter of waiting for them to get their act together. There's even a distinct possibility that I'll be swapping to a different server which my daughter (an IT tech) assures me that the change will be seamless.

Brian, that is a fantastic site that you maintain, by the way. I've used those engine tests to help me select props for use, especially where I don't have manufacturer instructions. Also they've helped to substantiate my observations, help others with prop selection on older engines, in some cases rebut bad opinions and bad advisement.

For example, I've found that the plain bearing sport Enyas, hold up well to the modern plain bearing sport Schneurle engines, if properly propped. Besides, I really like the writing style of Peter Chinn. He is thorough and pulls no punches.

We (my daughter and I) are working on the problem right now. We're likely to be setting up a mirror site so if one goes down then the other should still be available.

Traceroute on Dreamhost's URL timed out after leaving US.

Brian, typing in their URL and seeing what pops up, I noticed that Dreamhost.com has made some changes and according to their current web pages, are encouraging clients who are using Wordpress to their new server service, once accomplished the old will be done away with. May be true with their other services. Could you have somehow been obsoleted by them and need to have them migrate you?

George,
I'll show your post to my (IT) daughter and maybe she can translate it for me :). I have no clue what Wordpress is even after a Google search.

However for the time being I've just finished setting up an alternative site after my daughter bought a new domain name for me. The new site is http://sceptreflight.com/Model%20Engine%20Tests/Index.html which is still with Dreamhost but is now .com instead of .net although if the old one starts working again then I'll keep both going as a backup (mirror site?).

At least it's back on air :).

Traceroute is a Unix (Linux) utility, which will show the path of the various routers ("switches" in the old telephone sense) that a "test message" travels through until it reaches its destination. As far as I know, Wordpress is basically free software for creating web pages. It is reasonably user friendly and a user doesn't have to be a web page engineer to build attractive and effective web pages. Not really familiar with it, but may be that Dreamhost has the front end software that can take those pages stored in Wordpress storage format in one's account and properly display them. That is my primitive conjecture and not fact.

Thanks, your alternate site works just as the original one did. I think if your daughter can contact Dreamhost technical team or customer service, they can explain what has happened to your website.

I tried my old bookmark a few minutes ago and it came up just fine.
But I'm thankful for the mirror - it's a website I'd hate to lose permanently!
