Got off the phone a while ago, with Bill Gruby. His Son was wounded in Afghanistan. Any of yall who are inclined, say a little prayer for our soldier, and his family. ~john

Prayers sent. This is so hard. I remember when my nephew was hurt in Vietnam. We owe a lot to our soldiers.

Bad news travels fast don't it. It's not aas bad as they say. He was in the back of an armored vehicle whes it was attacked. He has shrapnel in the right arm and some in the chest. He is going to be OK and will get sent home soon. Bad or not this is a fathers worst nightmare come true. His Mother is taking it real bad, but I can handle that one. Please pray for all our troops, they sure need our help.

I'm very sorry to hear that even if it isn't as serious as feared. Our son was in the first skirmish with Irac a number of years ago and I know how you have to worry. You and your family will defintely be remembered in our prayers......

I'm a VA employee and not a day goes by I don't thank the service of our sons and daughters in uniform—during war or peace.
With Veterans Day rapidly approaching, it's appropriate to pause and honor those who serve or have served.
Bill, please convey our appreciation to your courageous son and Godspeed for a quick recovery.

A nation't thanks is due him for the risk and then genuine sacrifice. It is great news that he will recover. So many don't! Any support we can give him, let us know.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Sometimes we lose track of our lives and what we have to be thankful for. Then a crisis rises up to bring us back to reality and together. It's pretty hectic around here right now. The neighbors mean well but we need some time to ourselves right now. The CAO here in Hartford said we would probably hear from Richard by phone this afternoon. It will be good to talk to my son again. That is if Sophie lets me.

When you get a chance tell Richard thanks from the old DOC and all the rest. I will never forget the night my son(John Jared) told us he was signing up for the Navy. The wife went into almost hysterics. I just asked him if that is what he really wanted. Anyway I am lad your son is coming home. As you well know he will be a different man went he gets home. The Army wouldn't take me when Vietnam was going on. I watched my friends go and come home with stories. One story I will not forget was one of my friends and his buddy loading bodies onto a cargo plane for the states. They had just tied down the last body bag and turned to leave the plane. Thre stood a couple of grunts their gear and papers to go home on the same plane. They heard nothing but his buddy drop like a you know what as he reached for the papers. A bullet thru the heart from some where. Needless to say also my friend was in therapy for several years and is still not the same. Anyway I will pray for your son and all of our people keeping this world free. Maybe meet the two of you at Brodaks next year.

This is really tough, but we are so glad that he's on the mend. As has been said often, so many brave folks do not make it. We are thankful for his expected recovery and that you can have him nearer as his health returns. Your presence in his life will surely help him along.
