Samuel's Stuntbot Build
« on: January 01, 2018, 01:57:50 PM »
In preparation for this years flying season and the Nats. Samuel will be building 2 "Stuntbot" airplanes designed and donated by my friend Larry Davis. Because the BOM rule at the Nats. I wanted a simple, easy to build airplane that Sam could do almost all the work himself. Larry really came through. The "Stuntbot" is a profile, foam wing, elevator only airplane. Wingspan of 48", 552 square inch wing, weight 40 to 44ozs, engine .36 to .46. Larry has done electric versions as well. There are no plans at this time to "kit" these airplanes, so we were lucky to get them.  As stated he will be building 2 at the same time, a back up just in case. Sam has been working hard the last few days and made quite a bit of progress. I'll use this thread to post photos. See you on the circles this summer.

He does look intense on this project.   In time he will be telling us how to do it.  Way to go Sam and happy new year to both of you. H^^

Looks like a fun project for Samuel. Happy to see that, but I'd also love to see safety glasses in the shop, plus Nitrile gloves when using epoxy. Eyesight is a precious thing, as is NOT being allergic to epoxy. Sorry to bring the gloom...   y1 Steve

Not epoxy, Elmers white glue. Check on the safety glasses. I forgot.

Some color going on the wings. Since they are foam Sam is just using water based tempera paint. Covering will be clear Fascal. This has worked well for us on many Combat models.

You know, that's a great idea. More guys that fly that type of airplane should do all they can to put as much color into them as they can for visibility reasons. They don'e have any profile, next to nothing to help make the model stand out against a back ground. No real weight added, so make it so you can see it!

Sam is looking good there.  Would he charge by the hour or by the plane for finishing them? H^^

Is that little sister in the back ground waiting for her turn at flying and building?    D>K

It is Doc. That's my daughter Emma. I've offered many times to build her a plane but she is just not interested. So for now it's just Sam and I.

It's not epoxy. It's Elmers white glue. I just wash it out when I'm finished with it.
