I'm voting for Brodak. Nothing against Sig, just that they're already ridiculously inexpensive (< $50 for a Twister or Banshee) at sshobbies.

cheers,
Ken

I would suggest to S&S that 50% - 60% off their normal price would be a great incentive to stock up on kits.  I hope my suggestion helps.

Thomas

NOTE...since this post has obviously been misunderstood.  Please realize that it was an attempt to be humorous.  I really do understand that S&S can not provide a 50 to 60% discount and remain profitable.

Good one Thomas! I would also like to suggest the "buy one and get one of equal or greater value free". This should help keep fresh balsa kits from going stagnate on the shelves.....good marketing strategy!

I'd like to see both Sig and Brodak stuff discounted also. ;D ;D ;D

I have had very good dealings with both companies and really don't impart any bias either way. **)

Having said that the Brodak control line range being larger offers more choice to the consumer and therefore may help Joe and the gang turn over more sales,
helping those guys out as well. y1

 Cheers, Rob.

So do I, My problem is I like'em all. Just a Kit-O-Holic. It's to bad Sig doesn't come out with something NEW in the kit line. When was the last New Sig C/L kit ????  The ARF PF is not included since it's not what I consider a kit.

"I would suggest to S&S that 50% - 60% off their normal price would be a great incentive to stock up on kits.  I hope my suggestion helps.

Thomas,

That would mean that they would have to sell to you at below their cost! Then they would have no profit that would allow them to stock up on more kits!

Most kits are available to dealers at about 40% off, but the dealer still has to pay for the shipping. Some kits, all Arfs  and engines are 30% plus shipping. With these costs and having stock sit on the shelf, it is a wonder that any hobby shop can make it.

Tom N,

You took my posting far to seriously.  I understand that they must make a profit.  My post was not serious.  It was made as light hearted humor.  I have no doubt that S&S will provide the best deal and savings they can.  In fact I am impressed with their regard for the hobby and the hobbyist by having Robert poll our interests so they can best plan how to support the community.  I wish all vendors were as concerned.

I applaud their effort and look forward to again doing business with them in the future.

Thomas

Just got off of the Sig site, and their prices are, in my opinion, really good.  For example:  Twister  $42.99; Banshee  $41.99;  Super Chipmunk  $64.99.  These prices hang right there with SS Hobbies and Virginia Hobbysport.  FWIW    Glen

I think the Sig stuff's outdated, but nice. The wood in Brodak kits appears lighter to me. The latest Twister I'm buildings has some real hard and heavy stuff. Probably will work. Trouble is that with the ARFs thick at contests, I'm hard pressed to build something that isn't a liability. Lighter wood in Brodak kits, give me a shot. Also many of the Brodak designs are modern. No way a Chipmunk should fly with a Vector. All else equal. Besides (shudder) the Vector can be had ARFed. The P40 is sweet either ARFed or kitted, same with the Cardinal. No way a Sig Twister is equal to these. Kit building means time and a bunch of accessory purchases. Make sense to go with best available. Tho I admit I have at times gone with what's at hand and convenient.

I would like to see everyone stimulate the economy and see lots of presents under the Christmas tree this year with ALL munufacturers giving an honest 20-25% off
their list price - 75% profit is better than 100% of no profit (if no one buys their product). Just my thought for today.

Both company's put out great kits.  Brodak can do it on a smaller scale it seems like.  Now as far as a Vector outflying a Chipmonk,  you have not seen an expert fly one lately.  I have both versions of the Sig Chipmonk in my dungeon.  DOC Holliday

I now have a Strathmoor with gear in the  wing and it is a wonderful kit.  I hope it flies as well as it looks.

Builders have their own preferences, offer the discount to both and allow them to choose the kit they like, or kits they like.

It has been said that the best way to make a million bucks on model airplanes is to start with two million.

I think the folks are doing the best they can already.

(But I did vote  ;D )

Maybe they(SIG) could bring back the Magnum, and perhaps kit BW's T-Bolt ;D....

I agree with Phil, they need some new things added to their line.Make it fresh again. y1

 Brodak's a hard act to follow. 8)

As a Brodak and RSM dealer I am very happy with the way John Brodak and Eric Rule are creating new products for our small (very small) segment of the model aircraft market. I would also offer that along with several other custom kit manufacturers like Richard, Walter and Tom there is very little room left for SIG to address. It is plain to me that SIG has forfeited the control line market to all of these folks. SIG has made a good business decision. I would agree that the Magum by SIG was one heck of an C/L airplane and it filled a large void that hat not been addressed at the time.  It didn't take long to fill that void however. I do often wonder how long this small group of modelers can continue to absorb all of the new products that are scheduled as I generally dont see an influx of hobbyists. John and Eric probably have an excellent overview of the market and I for one will continue to support them.
As for the comments on discounts, be careful what you wish for. Without a profit margin dealers like myself will not exist long. No business small or large can exist without profit for very long.
BTW Sparky, this is one hell of a forum. Well done.
