Do you think a Saito 91 is to big for a magnum?
-
No, it's definitelty too small for the Magnum. You need at least a 1.5 cubic inch engine. LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~
The .91 should be put in a Nobler - after all, according to at least one person, too much power is not enough. ;) ;)
Now, to be serious - YES, it's WAY too much engine. I had one on the Mega-Streak and it was perfect but that plane spans 84 inches and weighs around 175 ounces. ~^ ~^
The Magnum will do just fine with a SAITO .50 or .56 - you don't need anything more. y1 y1
In fact, I would not hesitate to put my Surpass .48 on a Magnum - possibly even the Surpass .40.

Welcome to the site, John!
I agree with Bob. I thnk the balance problems that big ol' .91 would present would be difficult ot impossible to over come. The .56 I have seen in a Magnum, and I am not familiar with the .72 enough to say. But the Magnum was a ST 46 plane when Mikey designed it. The Saito 56 seems to give a LOT more stunt grunt if you like the 4S run.

What planes do you think are suitable for the Saito 91? I have 2, and would like to use one in a C/L model if I can.

Strega ARF or kit from Brodak, hang on with both hands..

Rotten,
This is the new Saito 220 Golden Knight. Figure about 9500 on a 20x8 prop. Whatever concerns you have about insufficient line tension overhead with the Magnum , THIS WILL TAKE CARE OF IT!!!!
In addition, as you well know, many a person has lost a contest because of increased wind during competition. You will not, I repeat, you will not lose with this motor in the wind. In fact, you probably will not lose no matter what.

One of the Woodland fliers experienced an increase in wind at the last contest. The Judges made sure to stay up wind and tried not to giggle or fan there nose's. I reccomend BeanNo to decrease the wind.

The SWEEPER!!!!!
Windy Urtnowski built it in the late 70s/early 80s and it’s up to his usual extreme high level of craftsmanship.
The approximate numbers are: wingspan 77”, stabilizer span 40”, length 66”, rudder height 19”.
For size comparison, I photographed it with a Brodak Nobler. ~^ ~^ ~^
The young man holding it is John Brodak's grandson Alex.
Weight is around 125 ounces! n~
Power? At this point it has an OS .60 but the SAITO .91 should be PERFECT!!
The Sweeper has been in storage for around 15 years and it’s time to resurrect it and see it fly again. In all likelihood, it will perform at the Brodak Fly-in in June.
And YES, I have the plans for it.

Joking aside, the reason you won't see many planes over the 91 engine size is because nobody wants to fly with .021 size lines.

IIRC, Derek Barry *might* have had to lean back just a touch while flying the Sweeper at Brodak's a couple years ago. Gives new meaning to the term "Balsa Overcast"! LL~ LL~
If there ever has been a plane for the Saito 91, I agree it is the Sweeper!
