You should be in England now. St. George flags everywhere. Why? The world soccer event is about to start. We'll have nothing but soccer, soccer, soccer, for weeks to come! Thinks - isn't U.S.A. in this event? Just don't go beating us please!! We'd never hear the end of it!!

Nobody knows. The Pro Bowlers Association has an event in Racine Wisconsin this weekend, that shoved World Cup Soccer off the front pages.

Those flags that are up 24 hrs a day need to have a spot light on them.
Our flag will be retired soon. Ours is getting faded.
I hate to see them when they are tattered and torn.

Our little town lined the streets as the hearse brought home one of our own, Army Major Wayne Culver, killed in Numaniyah, Iraq , last Monday by a "IED" he was 44 years old, wife and two kids. That's sad!

A little off to the side but about the Flag for sure. My wife and I went to a Concert and Vocal Affair this month. It was dedicated to a local WWII veteran that had passed away the week before. Everything went as expected till the Pledge of Allegence. To my dismay when they were asked to recite it at least 80% of that packed hall put their hands over their hearts and recited the Pledge SITTING DOWN. Not a TYPO, they never stood up. A young Warrent Officer went to the front and stopped the proceedings and demanded that they stand. They did.

I'm guessing that you are referring to that picture of the Obama's using their left hand. I checked on Snopes and it was a hoax picture. The buttons and rings were added to lend credibility. He's bad enough without the contrived stuff.  ::)

 ;) Hello Phil,

I do my best to fly the flag everyday. I also try not to leave it up overnight. Most days I do OK but sometimes not. Come this Fathers day I will get a new flag. I think I should light it this time then I would have no problems forgeting it. I have worn out several flags and they are folded up in my closet. I think it is time to burn them in the best way I can. I will build a nice hot fire in my burner and put them in there. Probably not the proper way but I see nothing wrong with it.

I have to say that I believe we are witnessing a revolution of sorts that is long over due. I am hoping for a complete change out of congress this election. We all need to get involved and regain our country. Unfortunately we now have a man who is President that I do not respect. For me this is a first and I certainly do not like it. He has to go.

A story with a brighter note - my youngest daughter and her fiancee have just purchased a home in Albion - a pretty small town - and the property has a large flag pole that is illuminated.   A number of her new neighbors stopped in to introduce themselves to them and to let them know that they would be very happy to assist with making sure the flag is properly displayed anytime they would not be home.   That kind of make you feel good !!!

Mine waved proudly, and was the only one I saw on my street. I went to visit my buddy Tom- his brand new one  was flying but also solo on his street.

I also take mine to any launch on the Space Coast I get to.  Last shuttle launch a guy asked me if that was my flag and nodded to it flying above my pick-up - I said " No, that is OUR flag". He gripped my hand - shook it firmly and replied " Best answer I ever heard - thanks from a 20 year Marine".  Kind of a fitting end to a great day.

It just now hit me.  Our local race track did not have the ceremony like in the past.  In the past all the drivers as a group would come to the front stretch.  The rest of the crews would follow.  The announcer would ask everyone to stand during the entry of the groups.  Did not have a color gaurd either.  Then the invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance and playing of the National Anthem.  Maybe it is because we lost a great driver a few days before I beleive in a work accident.  They said he had won three races  the previous weekend.  They mentioned his name on the World of Outlaws Sprint race.  Jesse Hockett was one terrific sprint driver as well as late model.  Would go and see him every time he came to the track.  One fine young man no longer with us.  :(
