Sad loss at Tucson

Gordan called to tell me that Bart lost the "Too Much" when hit by wind, aparently, at the top of the hourglass. Despite a valient effort, to save it, and an almost free flight traverse accross the circle, it went in inverted, and was lost. A sad end to a great plane.

My deepest condolences....to the loss of such a great CLPA flying machine!
However my sincerest CONGRATULATIONS for the success of such a beautiful model and what must have been an amazing accomplishment by Bart for his successful flight the day before.

Perhaps this old saying may help to ease the pain...of that horrific loss:

"TIS BETTA TO LIVE ONE DAY AS A LION...THAN A LIFETIME AS A LAMB!"
Wish I could have been there....to see Bart fly that memorial flight of yesterday. I will never forget experiencing Bart's beautiful 1967 Nationals 1st Place winning flights of perfection in CLPA history books.

That hurts!  The same happened to me at the 2004 Nats.
Except, I didn't loose the airplane.  Just got the gear knocked off and tangled lines.

Seen the after math from afar.  It is sad when a great looking plane goes in.  I hope his two day score is enough to keep the lead.  I was told they only count the two highest days.  Great as I only got a 219 today.

Poeple can't complain about VSC scoring or how it is run.  When you can run a contest on limited help and weather that could turn on you, the two clubs have been doing a bang up job.  Everybody knows what is going to happen most of the time up front.  But, like Old Time there have to be changes once in a while.  The three day format is great as we get out early and as some have said they got to go see some of the sights around Tuscon.  Unless you have been to The VSC and experienced it,  I'll let you fill in the rest.  I am already planning on next year.

Well Doc, as I'm sure you know by now, Bart had an overrun on his second flight.  His first flight (on Circle 3 on Thursday) which I judged along with Rickii Pyatt only ran to 7:59 so he had *plenty* of time cushion on that one.  And, that flight really was as good as his score reflected; that Dude is magic with a control handle...new airplane with about six total flights on it, a twin weighing 98 oz. powered by two Fox .35s, and very little practice on Bart's part over the past few years.  Sheesh!

   I finally was able to get back into this great forum. Although it may take a while,as I have about three projects ahead of it, the two Much will be re built and flying. Yeh!--the pressure was on and I really should have hung it up til next year and used the time to properly test and trim the plane.There were three factors that led to the crash and two of them were my fault. The leadouts were just a bit too far forward and the week engine was mounted on the inboard nacelle. I was too jacked up about flying officials this year.
