Title: Rusty Brown Award - Gratitude and apology
Post by: goozgog on June 21, 2015, 09:31:23 AM
I arrive home from Brodak's to find several emails
telling me that I have received the Rusty Brown Award,
but that I behaved like a cad and wasn't there to accept it.
Very embarrassing.
I want to apologize to Rusty's family and friends and
to Mark Weiss and Will Davis.
My only excuse was that I had lost my wallet and
needed to search for it so that we could get home.

   On a nicer idea,
THANK YOU for this award!

As we were driving home, my son and I talked about
the old fashioned concept of being "honorable" and how
that seems to be the best word to describe the people
we met there. The Rusty Brown Award means a lot coming
from such people.

No worries. A lot of people bailed early to get a jump start. Congratulations on the Award.
It was good flying with you all week.

A gracious post, but did you find your wallet?  We all surely hope so, for that is no minor tragedy!

Keith,

Congratulations!  Rusty was a beloved member of our Colorado control line community and he would approve.

Keith,

Congratulations on receiving the Rusty Brown award!!  Rusty was my friend and helped me improve from beginner to advanced.  I'm certain he would be pleased to see the award go to you.

Thanks for the kind words.
   I truly feel honored.

I did find my wallet when we got home,
 buried under all the gear.
I'd spent all my cash on airplane stuff and
was planning on using plastic to fuel the car.
Yikes!  ...But it was a good trip back.

Cheers! - Keith

Back when he lived in western Kansas and drove an old hail-damaged Dodge (maybe Desoto), Rusty and I were a team in Goodyear and rat.  Rusty's dog at that time was Cookie.

At either the '74 or '75 Nats at Lake Charles, Rusty made it to the final match in Slow Combat vs one of the top gun Texans, maybe a Stubblefield or Cleveland, I don't recall which. There was a long rain delay and the Kansans & Texans sat it out in support of their man.  Russ can in second, but who knew he was a top gun combat flyer?

Rusty was great in what ever event he would enter.  The first time I remember meeting Rusty was at the old City Park of KCK.
