Title: Russian "Uctkam" .15 engine
Post by: Michael Graves on July 27, 2012, 02:25:16 PM
Does anyone know anything about this motor? Is it any good? I ran across one fairly cheap. Should i buy it or pass on it? I am thinking of useing it in a "Goodyear" racer.  Any input would be welcome.
Thanks!
Mike

Mine is rough looking but runs well. I've never powered anything with it tho, only block run.

Is this the same motor?
The one on the right I ran a fair bit. I got it from one of the locals at the W/C  in Kiev in 1988.
Made a Nelson plug head for it and gained ~1500 RPM. Also made the venturi for it which was about 500 RPM better than the stock one.
Not a power house by any means but always ran smooth and steady. The guy who gave it to me might have put a different P/L in it, not sure.
Leadout in the plane I got it with failed and I never ran the motor again.

The one on the right I think I paid $40 for at a local swap meet. Never ran that one.

As Pat said above a good cheap low end performance engine after a bit of a clean up inside. Essentially a Rossi 15 mk2 copy.

The p/l fits the Rossi, Cox Conquest and the Taipan 15BB glow. A cheap source of parts for these engines at about $40-50 each.

Got one as a gift From Marvin Denny. Just ran a few tanks of fuel through it so far. Seems to run O K.
