I am new to the forum. The plans for the RSM Chizler show an OS .35S for the power plant. Does anyone know how much that engine weighs?
I have an RO jett .40, lj fox .35 and an RO Magnum .36. Any suggestions for a powerplant for this beautiful kit?

If your talking a 35FPS 8.2894 oz. Use whatever you feel like just be mindfull of the weight and that the os engine uses a shaft extension.

Both of your engines are way more power than needed for the chizler. If it flew well with the 35s an LA.25 ought to work fine. The 35s can be had on ebay for around 35 bucks but in most cases you need to find a venturi and NVA for it. I don't have the weight of the 35s on hand but I'm pretty sure someone here will come up with it. :)

OS .35S complete (prop & drive washers, nut, glow plug, stock venturi and NVA - but no muffler) = 6.9 oz.
I had a Chizler with a box-stock Fox .35 back in the late '60s, and it flew just fine. Remember, the Chizler is a Nobler with a banana-shaped fuselage. The wing, airfoil, moments, etc. are the same as a Nobler.

tThe RO Jett .40 or RO magnum .36 will be great. The Classic airplanes come alive with a little more power!

I am with Tom Niebuhr. You can always go down in pitch and out on the lines if it flys too fast for your liking. y1
One thing to consider, though is the weight of these engines vs. the Fox 35 which I believe Mr. Mathis used in his first one, or the OS 35S. I am guessing that both of the engines you have are around 2 oz. heavier. So build in a tail weight box. We have used the square head Magnum with great success in a '59 Ares. 10 1/2" - 4, 3 bld prop. Both of your engines will need a prop larger than the 10-5 or 10-6 the Fox and OS take so look at your LG length/prop clearance.

I put a PA 40 UL in a Cobra meant for a Fox 35. Worked well, though I had to go with a plastic spinner and very light tank and muffler. But it balanced fine and flies pretty well. I would think the 36 would be a killer on the Chizler.

Thanks for the info from all of you! I think I will go with the RO mag .36 in the Chizler. I like the additional power with this engine.
