Never mind all this other stuff. The R. F. Stevenson Memorial Raider Roundup is this weekend, and for those of you on the East coast, it's time to hit the road to get to Auburn. Bring airplanes for all the events, because there is a special high-point award of quite a bit of actual money, determined by a formula known only to Dave Gardner. If you plan to fly carrier, call Mike Potter to see if we're still interested in deploying the deck. Be there or be square.
-
I'll be there, but no bells on.
-
I'll be there, bandages, stitches, scars and all. Hopefully will stop leaking by Saturday. This seems to be a common plot for me about this time of year. :-[
See you at tonight's meeting, Howard? #^ Steve
-
There's a rumor that a couple guys from Portland are coming ;D
-
Figures, I'll be arriving in Portland Sunday afternoon for a conference the following week. Wish I would have asked around before booking my plane ride. It would have been nice to drive up and watch.
-
Well I can say that there will be three, maybe more, of the DREADED CANADIAN CONTINGENT. So beware .

I'm in .... Big Time !
-
Sounds like plenty of guys will be there for carrier, so we'll do it.
-
Carrier competition will be Saturday only and it is Northwest Sport 40 only.
However if you have a carrier plane with a muffler and you want to give it test hop you are welcome to give it a try.

So, no practice circle Saturday?
-
Maybe some.
-
So, no practice circle Saturday?
Put a hook on your stunt plane.
-
I don't expect more than a few dozen in carrier, so it will be over soon enough to practice some stunt. Similarly, the other circle should clear out by 3:00 or so, and everybody will be going to my house for dinner, so you'll have the place to yourself if you want it.
-
Gee thanks, Howard. I feel disinvited. :'(
-
Fun day at the Roundup. But the carrier fliers ran over so I didn't any practice flying. Oh well, I'll be out for dawn patrol tomorrow. Shame Mark isn't her to be my stunt flunkie.
-
Mark is a wimp. See you tomorrow. Bring your Cobra. If it has too few KV for you, I might buy it.

It was a good news, bad new weekend. I flew like crap, but Paul told me what was wrong with the plane and there is a possibility I can fix it.
-
Randy actually flew pretty well. I was envious of his overhead 8.
-
Sorry I couldn't make it, I was at the ranch all weekend.

Hey, we didn't see you at the "ranch". My daughter was there all weekend and reported that you weren't there. What's the deal!
-
Different ranch, I think.
-
It was a great contest; we all had a good time. I will have the results posted on flyinglines.org as soon as I get the report assembled. Got some good photos.
-
And John's new plane flies pretty good, too.
-
Typical of his "outside the box" approach to most things, including this year's awards, Howard did a fine job. He probably has a file he could post of the awards. Nice idea! He even managed to turn off the rain Sunday morning and push PW for a close second place.
As for myself, in spite of the flu, or whatever kept me on the pot all of Saturday night I had a great time! $$$$$$ ;D Anyone within a couple of hundred miles should attend next year, the extra bucks could help with the gas. My gas was a separate issue :-X

What did Paul say? Maybe we can all learn something.

Crist,
He pointed out some bonehead trimming issues that if I had 3 complete brain cells, I would have seen for myself. But that's why he's the champ. Well, that and about a million flights more than me and a degree in aeronautical engineering and .....

I was at the ranch, not THE RANCH...that is more like a pilgrimage to Mecca.

It was a good time. We had a good turnout for Expert stunt (picture below). I demonstrated my new quiet landing gear by making an extremely bouncy, but quiet, landing.
-
Howard , I like the new group picture format.
John
-
A big thank you go to the stunt guys for helping with the carrier deck unloading and loading H^^
Mike Potter
-
It's a motley, disorganized group. But it's a cool picture.

Yes, it's nice for somebody to be able to look at their trophy and see all the old farts they trounced. I did get a picture, but no trophy. Just the way the wife likes it. :-[ Steve
-
Steve,
With the trim issues I'm working on, I didn't expect to be in the top 5 much less a trophy. Also the way my wife likes it. ;D
-
Results and photos are now posted on flyinglines.org.
H^^

I like the group photo as well. Would be cool to have such things going back in time. We could look at them in the old folks home and wonder who these people are. I think I might write the names of everyone on the back of the photo!
-
If you can remember to turn it around to see it!
-
WHAT DID YOU SAY?...SPEAK UP SO CHRIS CAN HEAR!
-
Say what?
-
And I would note, after Paul was nice enough to point out the obvious to me (thanks, Paul, I needed that), the problem is now resolved (and the spinner is even aligned). And Yes, Alan Resinger, I lengthened the tail wheel gear.

The real question is: did it make it fly better?
-
We'll find out tomorrow. I ended up building a wedge shim from some carbon plate I had laying around. Weirdly, the spinner was sort of not aligned before. Just a bit off. Now if aligns perfectly. So I must have had it right at some point. Oh well, it now has 2 degrees of offset and we'll see. If it's not pounding rain tomorrow.
-
Hey Randy, do you remember where you got your pilot figure from?
-
I think it came in a cracker back jox.
-
Chris,
Pete's Pilots, I think. But I really don't remember. He's been around awhile.
Paul,
Yes, it helped. A lot. So did adding about 2oz of nose weight. Thing almost flies now.

That's great to hear. Hope it keeps getting better.
