Anyone have a story or pics of the Rouge Park contest today? Frank? Curt?  Was it good weather down there today?

Lets hear it

It was a really nice event....the weather was great--although with the NW wind, it swirled over the trees some and at time was a challenge--like flying in amixing bowl.

But we got in alot of flights, the only casualty being an ARF Oriental that had the wing seperate from the fuse.

The Combat was very active as well and we had quite a number of Balsa Storms!

I didn't take photos but I think a couple of folks did.  I'm sure Paul will give us a full report--Strathmoor rises again!

I just finished getting pics ready to post.

The ARF Oriental incident was dramatic. Dave Keats has been flying it for two years. Yesterday right in the middle of a maneuver the whole airplane seperated from the wing and lawn darted into the pit area, the wing fluttered to the ground on the end of the lines. the body of the plane didn't hit anything but dirt so there was no collateral damage. Dave had a very surprised look on his face. This was an instance where the safety thong didn't help at all. It happened so fast I don't think you could have blinked before it got you, let alone duck out of the way.

Bob Branch (a recent retread) flew a decent pattern with his ARF Pathfinder. Big Art came out--Brad LaPointe had a cooler of that wonderful Canadian beer that really hit the spot after a day of battling that frisky wind.

Paul Smith took every flight possible in P-40, Classic, Old Time & PAMPA Stunt. I was pretty sun burnt after standing there and judging all those flights.

I flew expert with Bob McDonald and John Paris. I was about 80 points behind and skipped a second flight as what was really needed to catch up was more practice. Sometimes you just gotta say-----NEXT TIME.

Randy Ryan got his first flight in on his Jetco Sabre Stunter. It's a very nice plane. He's a good builder and finisher. I think he got best of show. Rick Sawicki did the appearance judging.

Dick Kirk flew Old Time and won. He'll be judging at our Detroit Contest on June 3rd.

The circle at Rouge has been there since I was in Kindergarten and is in really good shape.

More stuff happened but I only have two eyes.

Well, now I am even more bummed that I missed it, Randy flew that beautiful F-86, and I missed it.  ARRRGGGHHH!!!!  And I missed not seeing everyone else that made the contest too.  I should not have asked.

That circle was there when you in kindergaten Frank? I didnt know there was C/L before the Wright Bros made thier first flight. They could have gotten some ideas from you  **)    (I'm gonna pay for that  ;D )

I have to make sure I can make the next contest at the Park.

Thanks for the pics Frank

yeah Greg, Randy's is a Sig Mustang.

He shared finishing secrets with me that I am using on my new plane. Hopefully it will be nice like his planes.

Is there someone you can carpool with?

Carpool? hmmmmm, I can talk to John, or Jay. Flint is alot closer than Detroit. But no dogs that way, man, what a horrible situation.

So how did the Sig Mustang fly? did he do any of the mods to it. I doubt it is box stock. The Sig Mustang was my first big airplane. Enya 45, didnt have a clue what I was doing, it didnt live long, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. You guys would laugh till you had tears if I told you how I built and flew it. But it was just me and my brother, nobody to show the way, we had a balst.

I am going to make everyeffort to make the June 3rd contest date Frank, even if I'll be flying your old Oriental.   ~>

time to get cutting parts

Greg,

Randy didn't fly the Mustang and I've never seen it go.

Carpooling would be a good option but if you need to - I'll spot you some gas money and set up a spot for the pooches at RCCD.

The Oriental should work good for you.
