Netzeband Contest Will not be Held
« on: November 02, 2012, 03:10:28 PM »
It is with regret that the KOTRC announces cancellation of the Wild Bill Netzeband Memorial Contest. The event was originally scheduled for Nov 10th & 11th, 2012 at Whittier Narrows Park, S. El Monte, CA.

Any preregistration paid entries will be refunded immediately by the KOTRC.

Just curious, why is it cancelled?

It was just too close to the Golden State Championships, and with gas prices and the economy as they are, too few non-local flyers were going to come to make it even near break-even.  KOTRC just doesn't have the kind of resources to lose hundreds of dollars putting on a contest.  Frankly, they SHOULD bring in a little bit of money as they used to do.

Currently there are plans afoot to do a Beginners Fly-Off on the 10th.  Free entry.  Prizes valued in the $1 range!  Well worth the trip?  John Wright is bird-doggin this effort, and I will help judge.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

Well I attended two contests here in the central part of the states and I am still trying to get caught up.   Closest contest to me is Topeka KS,  70+ miles.  And it is cheaper to drove back and forth than stay over night even tho I have a couple that says I can stay with them.   They don't know what old age does to a guy during the night, plus the pills.

Many thanks to Larry Renger, John Wright and Don Repp (KOTRC.org club founder), for holding a beginner stunt contest today. There were many beginners looking forward to the Netzeband contest and Larry, John and Don stepped-up to make it happen for us CL newbees. It was very low-key and a comfortable start for all of us beginners. We had 5 guys show and 2 other no-shows, possibly due to the uncertain rainy weather. For those of us who braved the cool weather today we were faced with some high winds and packed-it-up around noon. Now if I could only get my plane to finish the stunt pattern without the engine dying I might knock out a 200+ flight.

You guys do a great job promoting our hobby and many thanks to you guys for dedicating your day to us. Keep up the great work!!!

Actually, this format seems to pull beginners out of the woodwork.   Probably because they are not intimidated by the whole "contest" thing.  We had 250% participation compared to the Golden State Championships.  ;D

It was fun, and helpful to be able to personally critique the patterns.  Next time, I think we should do a review after every flight while the images are still fresh.

It was fun and I got to fly the demo flight for the beginners.  Wouldn't you know it the only time I score enough points to win is in a contest I am not allowed to fly in. n1 We also got to test fly a couple of Torquettes for our upcoming drag racing contest.  Ten laps from a standing start, best ET wins.  So far my best time is 28.08 seconds and after seeing Mike Alurac's Picco/Galbraith engine run on his Torquette I know my time won't cut it.  But it's all for fun right? First Ukie contest for me! Mike and Larry's comments are spot on, looking forward to the next time! Thanks to all that helped, especially the Reptoid who stuck my bird back together!

Great pictures.  I remember the first trophies I ever won as a teenager was a beginner only contest.  Would you beleive a Ringmaster with McCoy Redhead .35.
