Title: Rock Maple Motor Mounts
Post by: badbill on December 11, 2015, 07:12:30 AM: Where's the best place to get our Rock Maple Motor Mount material? Does Lowes have it? I can cut if necessary.... About to build a Magician from a Midwest kit, and the motor mounts that came with it are about 3" long LL~

Forgot: also call your local cabinet shops, they often have short cut off pieces they may even give you... If not the price should be good.

Post by: Phil Krankowski on December 11, 2015, 08:59:42 AM: Flooring can be recut. Sugar maple or Hard Maple is stocked by many lumber yards and some big box stores. Call around. Select a nice clean plank that has lots of straight grain in it. Don't use curly grain for motor mounts EVER.

Post by: Clancy Arnold on December 11, 2015, 09:13:35 AM: I stopped by a local specialty lumber store and looked their selection of wood. They had a 1/2 inch thick hard maple board about 5 inches wide and about 8 ft long. It was tagged $10.50. I asked about getting a 3/8 wide strip off that board. He said sure. I paid $1.00 and he put the remainder of the board back in stock still marked $10.50.
