Ringmaster/Fox 35

I bought a Fox 35 and a Mcoy redhead NIB at a flea market a couple of years ago for $50.  Not a bad deal.  They both run great.  I finally took my LA 25 off my Ringmaster and put the Fpx 35 with an APC 10X5 on it.  It flies great just like I remember the Ringmaster back in the 50s.  The only problem I had today was that the engine slowed down a little anytime I did an outside manuver.  I have a feeling it may be the tank or tank placement.  It is slightly higher than the center of the engine.  Any suggestions?  I also need to know where the CG is for the ringmaster and what the best fuel is for the Fox.  Thanks for your help.

Puting the tank on centerline is worth a try and as for balance, I think that the RM will do well balanced about 1 3/4 back .....and as for fuel, the Fox will give you excellent service on Fox Super fuel.......5% nitro, 29% castor oil, and the balance methanol....I would stay away from any synthetics myself...Regards, Phil

  The slowing of the Fox during outside maneuvers is common on profile type mountings.  It can sometimes be a little disconcerting.  Try moving the tank  up some more and if it gets worse, go back down.  move the tank about 1/16th inch at a time for these adjustments.  Try different plugs and different props to see if that cures it.
  I run Fox super fuel for both of the engines you listed.
  Going up in nitro on the fox to 10% won't hurt it as long as you stay with high oil content--- STAY AWAY FROM SYNTHETICS on that engine.

I run several Fox 35's on profiles.  I mount my tanks about 3/8" above the centerline of the engine.  As for the CG, I couldn't really tell you.  I've never checked it.

You say it is slowing down,  does that mean its rich or lean.  If rich, then raise the tank alittle.  If lean then you have to lower the tank.  I have a profile with an Enya 35, Adimisin muffler that the tank is a good 1/2 inch below the center line.   You also don't say if it runs the same upright as it does inverted.  Somewhere on this site Bob Z. has a procedure for setting proflie mounted engines on the ground.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

The gurus have spoken!  Marvin knows more about a Fox 35 than Duke did.

25%-29% castor oil for both engines, that's for sure.  Adding an ounce or two (no more) of Klotz to a gallon of fuel is often recommended to help keep excess varnis build up from happening.  I really like to add an ounce of Randy Smith's Aero-1 (Snake Oil! LOL!!) to my gallons of fuel.

One hint: don't let the McCoy ever get a real lean run...........
