Another new plane!
« on: June 07, 2009, 10:19:15 AM »
Dennis Adamisin's Mythbuster has inspired me to go electric. So,
I stopped by the hobby shop yesterday, my buddy John Grigsby
hooke me up with a nice motor setup and 3 hours later I'm ready to
go flying.

The winds will have to die down a little, though. The new Baby Furias
is built for calm air. With a 9 in. wing span and 15 sq. in. of wing area
she weighs in at a whopping 16 grams. I just knew I could build
light! Power is from the Park Zone Ember with a geared motor/prop
combo. Pressing the button on the handle delivers the power from
the battery (2 AA) pack which I keep in my pocket while flying.
Finish is the always reliable and very light Sharpie method. It's pretty
easy and quick. First, you take a Sharpie and start drawing and coloring
on your plane, then you take another Sharpie and repeat step one
until you're finished. Now, you're finished.

This one should be a hoot to play with.

Later, Steve

Line tension may be a bit high.  Better not forget the pull-test Steve.  #^

PS.  Did you get my PM a few weeks back?  Think you had been out of town at the time.   Have sent you an updated one.

Steve: this is actually really a cool idea!  Have you seen Dan Banjocks little TD-010 BiSlob with about a 5" wingspan?  Actually (sorta) Flies!

A mini ELECTRIC Furias.  Sheesz, are you trying to goad me into building a mini Mythbuster with a piped TD-010???  :o  ;D

Dennis: Get on it!!

This is actually the second of these built. The first was done by
John Grigsby and Bill Bischoff at Mike's Hobby in Dallas about 5 years
ago. It was an all Depron foam Bear. The motor in it was an older
generation of course and was about 4 times the size of the one
in this plane with less power. It still did manage to fly at 32 grams.
It was a real blast to fly in tiny circles with 10 foot lines. I expect
this one will be, too.

I dare you to fly it in close proximity to a cat!
